At the end of the day.

Many of us move quickly from one thing to the next without taking time to notice.

Where God has been present.

The Prayer of Examen.

Is a simple Christian practice that helps us prayerfully review the day.

Hi.

I'm Jess Bielman.

And I'd like to introduce you to the Prayer of Exilement.

The examen comes from the Ignatian tradition.

And is often associated with Saint Ignatius of Loyola.

It is usually practiced at the end of the day.

As a way to look back with God.

Not judging ourselves too harshly.

But to become more aware of grace.

Gratitude.

An invitation.

There are five simple movements.

First.

Ask God for light.

Invite the Spirit to help you see the day clearly.

Second,

Give thanks.

Notice one or two gifts from the day that let yourself receive them with gratitude.

Third review of the day.

Move gently.

Through the day in your mind from morning to evening.

What moments stand out?

Where did you feel alive,

Connected?

Resistant,

Hurried.

Peaceful or distant.

Face your shortcomings.

Notice where you missed the mark.

Or you failed to love.

Or where you are not fully present.

Hold these moments honestly before God,

Trusting.

In mercy.

Look toward the day to come.

Ask for the grace you need for tomorrow from what you've learned from today.

Let's try it together just for a moment.

Take a slow breath.

And pray.

Spirit of God.

Help me see this day.

With love and truth.

Now notice one gift from today.

Review your day gently.

What moment?

Is rising to the surface.

Is there anything you need to confess?

Release.

Or receive mercy for.

And now.

As you look toward tomorrow.

What grace do you need?

The prayer of examen is a beautiful tool for ending the day.

It helps us reflect.

Give thanks.

Notice where we are growing.

And remember.

That God has been with us all along.
