Take a moment to get comfortable,
Close your eyes if that is available to you or allow your eyes to rest in a gentle gaze on an object in your space.
Invite your awareness inward towards your breath,
Simply noticing your inhale and your exhale,
Simply breathing.
Invite your awareness a little bit deeper into your body now by noticing any areas of tension in your muscles.
With each inhale hold the breath for a few seconds as you notice any areas of tension and with each slow and long exhale invite those muscles to relax,
To let go.
Systematically muscle by muscle,
Part by part,
Inviting your body to release,
To let go.
With each breath,
Relaxing a little bit deeper,
Your body is relaxed,
Loose and limp.
Your body is relaxed,
Loose and limp.
Simply relaxing and being with each breath.
Now using your imagination,
Imagine that you are standing in a hallway,
Lined on either side with multiple doors.
This hallway extends as far as your eyes can see and you notice that the doors are all of different shapes,
Different colors and sizes.
They are all unique,
Beautiful and inviting for you.
Imagine that you're looking down at your feet and you can sense the warmth of the ground beneath you,
Anchoring you down to the earth,
Keeping you safe.
This sense of safety encourages you to take a step forward into the hallway.
You take your time in admiring each door that you walk past.
You are intrigued by the various shapes,
Their texture and colors and reach out to touch the doors.
You try to turn the knob on your favorite door but it is locked.
You walk down the hallway as you allow your fingertips to explore the space,
Full of curiosity as to what lies behind these beautiful facades.
You find yourself suddenly at the end of the hallway and you are faced with a door that looks different.
It is much bigger and painted in a color that is uninviting to you.
As you edge closer,
Still connected to the warmth and sense of safety beneath your feet,
It strikes you that this is the only door with a key.
Beneath the door,
In the cracks between the frame and the floor,
You movement,
Shadows.
You notice there is uncertainty and distrust arising from within you and a strong desire to turn away.
Somehow the warmth beneath your feet keeps you anchored.
You become aware of the sensation of fear in your body.
Where do you feel the fear?
Does it have a particular shape or size or color?
Where does it end and begin in your body?
If the feeling of fear spreads,
Notice what direction it moves in.
Does it go down or up?
Inward or outward?
Would it be okay to feel the very edges of that fear?
What are the qualities of that sensation?
Is it heavy?
Is it stuck?
Maybe painful or steaming?
Compressed?
Tense?
Tight?
Knotted?
Whatever word comes to mind.
If that sensation of fear in your body could speak,
What would it say?
You suddenly notice a presence by your side.
A presence that fills you with ease.
You turn around to see you,
Your future self,
20 years older.
An older,
Wiser version.
You notice the color of your hair,
The clothes you are wearing and you are drawn to a smile of reassurance.
Take a moment to look at this version of yourself.
What do they look like?
What is the color of their hair?
What is the clothes they're wearing?
What does it look like?
How are they standing?
Your future self gently takes your hand and the warmth of their touch soothes your uncertainty and fear.
They whisper your name.
They invite you to step forward.
They gesture towards the key.
You step towards the door.
You turn the key and the door swings open.
An energy pulls you inwards and you look up and you are surprised to see that you're actually back at the start of the hallway.
Still looking at the same doors.
Still the different shapes,
Colors and sizes.
But as you edge closer,
You now notice that each of those doors have keys.
You choose a door that is your favorite color.
You feel the texture of the wood against your fingers.
Its doorknob is warm.
You press its key between your fingers and you turn the lock.
You step inside with ease.
What do you see?
Where does it take you?
What is happening in this space?
What shapes do you see?
What colors?
What sounds do you hear?
What are you doing in that space?
And as you surrender to that space,
To its aliveness,
What does your best future self have to say to you?
You take a few deep breaths,
Really soaking in to the sights,
The sounds and the feelings that arise for you through this door.
Your future self takes your hand once again,
Inviting you to come back.
You walk back into the corridor and you notice once again the uninviting,
Dark,
Heavy door.
You notice the fear in your body.
You notice the shadows beneath the cracks of the door once again.
But this time,
Without hesitation,
You walk through.
You step back into the corridor.
Back to the safety and the warmth of the floor.
Back to the row of beautiful doors.
You know that you can return to this place anytime.
To open new doors and trust that it will take you wherever you need to be.
Take a few moments to sit with this feeling of trust and faith in life.
Knowing that you have the power to face your fears and to open up new opportunities and possibilities for yourself.
Take a deep breath in and exhale slowly.
When you are ready,
Gently open your eyes,
Carrying this sense of trust and faith with you as you return back to your space.
