This poem is a gift of the heart. Desert Song is a poem that speaks to our spirit and our humanity. To our call to know ourselves deeply. To the reality of everyday life that pulls us away. To the refuge we find when we return to our practices again and again. It is based on Buddhist teachings and speaks to our willingness to experience, to accept and to find beauty in life, just as it is. May you know your own goodness, and let it shine brightly. Namaste, Dianne

Welcome.

Welcome to the next moments that are just for you.

I'm Diane Harris and it's my pleasure to share this poem,

Desert Song,

With you.

I invite you to enjoy this pause in whatever part of your day or night you're in right now.

A pause to listen and perhaps reflect.

And at the end of the poem,

You might enjoy sitting for a while in quietude.

Desert Song is a gift of the heart that beckons to our spirit and to our humanity.

To our call to deeply know ourselves and to the reality of everyday life that pulls us away again and again.

This poem is based on Buddhist teachings and it speaks to our willingness to experience,

To accept and to find beauty in life just as it is.

Make yourself comfortable.

And just let these words wash over you.

Let's take three breaths together to invite release,

Relaxation and receptivity.

With the teeth gently parted.

Let's prepare by taking a full exhale.

And now inhale nice and slowly.

Let the exhale just fall away.

Body softens.

Easeful inhale.

Softly exhale.

Mind rests.

Inhale gentle yet full.

And exhale letting go.

Heart opens.

Desert Song.

Nourishing rains remind me of my thirst.

Clouds clear.

Sun bursts.

Drawn out by mirages.

Every day.

Splendidly shimmering.

Then dancing away.

Images evaporate into a rare glimpse of clarity.

Until the wind whips up in a desolate cry.

Sands swirling.

Biting.

Scratching.

Blinding.

In the barren landscape.

There's nowhere to hide.

Arms lowered.

I allow it to come.

Accepting what is.

Defenses are done.

Released from resistance.

I patiently wait.

Sands prickle and pummel.

Then shift and abate.

Stillness.

I lay on the sand.

And allow it to hold me.

Relief in accepting.

Quiet inside.

A moment of reprieve.

Under the heat of the sun.

The blazing truth finds me.

The dreams are undone.

Stark and harsh.

Under the glaring light of the day.

Allowing illusion.

To slip away.

Scarred by the elements.

Vulnerable and whole.

Rest in the knowing.

Rest in the soul.

Sometimes loud,

Sometimes quiet.

Always.

Yearning is there.

Struggle to succumb.

To the whims of the air.

Quenched and parched.

Trust carries me through.

Open to the moment.

Loving what's true.

Even tide cools the fiery day.

Giving over to nature's way.

Refuge in darkness.

Wisdom baked in my bones.

Taking the path that's leading me home.

Peace be with you.
