Hey everyone,
My name is Hannah Rose.
This is the first video that I'm making on Insight Timer,
So I'm innately uncomfortable,
But I really believe in the power of vulnerability and sharing from where we're at.
What I wanted to talk about today is a quote that I heard on the Secular Buddhism podcast with Noah Roschetta.
And he talks about how our suffering really lives in between two things.
Reality as it is?
And reality as we think it should be.
And any time that I'm anywhere outside of reality as it is,
Radically accepting reality as it is,
Radically seeing reality as it is,
And I'm stuck in the space between reality as it is versus reality how I want it to be,
That is when I'm in suffering.
And so I have a choice.
I have a choice every moment of every single day.
Accept and adapt or resist and suffer.
The choice is mine,
And it's only mine.
I am not a victim of my circumstances.
And if I can just notice and catch myself,
Oh,
I'm stuck in realities I think it should be,
Whether it has to do with the weather or traffic or the way other people are existing or reacting to me or think about me.
Reality as it is versus reality as I want it to be.
And I hope this very simple,
Very quick reminder is something that you can hold on to throughout your day.
I'm stuck in resisting what is,
And that's on me.
That is not on anyone else.
That is on me.
And the more that I can do to deconstruct any and all barriers between me and the present moment exactly as it is,
That's the key to my freedom.
And there's so much out there to help us on this path.
So just remember,
Next time you're suffering or in mild distress or mild discomfort,
Whatever it is,
Ask yourself.
Am I resisting reality as it is?
Reality as it is,
Or reality how I think it should be.
The choice is yours.
