Beyond “If Only"

Many of us live with a feeling of regret, a feeling of “if only” this were different all would have been well or at least better. When we live from regret it’s not really living, and we can simply let go of it. In this release we let go of “if only” and discover “I can now.”

Often we live our lives looking backwards instead of dealing with what's here now and what we choose to create in the imagined future.

We live in what-ifs and if-onlies as opposed to just simply taking charge and being fully present with what's right here,

Right now.

So in this moment,

Could you allow yourself to just simply welcome any place in your life where you're holding onto regret?

If only I did this or didn't do that.

If only they had done that or not done that.

If only X,

Y,

And Z had happened,

W would be possible.

Could you just simply let that be here?

And then could you welcome to all you're wanting to change the past?

All you're wanting to figure out how you could have done it differently or they could have done it differently?

All you're wanting to control or fix or change,

Manipulate what was.

And could you also welcome any wanting to push it away or hold it close?

Any wanting to do anything with or about it?

And then could you welcome to any sense that's personal about you or who you are,

Any sense of identification?

And then as best you can,

Just for now,

Could you let go of that feeling of regret,

That feeling of only whatever you would add to that?

Could you just set that free?

And could you just simply let go of the past and be present with what is now and what's possible now?

And again,

Allow yourself to focus on that same thing or anything else from your past where you're feeling if only,

You're feeling regret.

And could you just simply welcome whatever that brings up inside of you?

And then could you welcome to any wanting to change what was,

Any wanting to fix what was,

Any wanting to understand how you could have done it better or how you could have made it turn out differently than it did?

And could you welcome to any other wanting to do something with or about it?

And then could you also welcome any sense that's personal about you or who you are?

And then as best you can,

Just for now,

Could you let go of the feeling of regret?

Regret never changes the past.

It only makes us repeat the same mistakes over and over again.

So could you let go of the feeling of regret or of if only?

And could you just allow yourself to be here now?

Be open to the possibility of what is here now and what is possible?

And again,

Could you allow yourself to just simply let go of any feeling of regret,

Any feeling of if only?

And then could you just embrace the now,

Embrace that beingness that you are that is always right here,

Right now?

That from which all possibility is born.

And again,

Could you let go of any feeling of regret or of if only?

And just be open to the possibility that is right here,

Right now.

Okay,

So remember,

It's not that you shouldn't learn from your past mistakes.

It's just that when you live in if only or live in regret,

You're looking backwards and you trip over what's actually here now.

It just gets in the way.

So just let yourself let go and explore what's possible now.
