Welcome to Life,

Lessons,

And Laughter with your host Glenn Ambrose.

So Hit It!

Hello everybody!

Welcome to the podcast!

Dave's so happy.

The other day,

He said,

So Hit It!

About something and then he goes,

Ah,

Miss Glenn,

Are we ever going to see him again?

So Hit It!

So here we are.

Welcome to Life,

Lessons,

And Laughter.

Kicking off with some laughter.

So today we are talking about change.

Yes.

When it's time to change.

And Peter Brady style.

Dealing with change that's already happened.

Actually that's what we're talking about.

Yes.

There's a lot of podcasts about change.

Yeah.

But this is specifically,

What do you do?

How do you react when change is happening?

Yes.

What does it feel like?

I don't know,

Man.

Nothing's ever changed in my life.

Yeah.

Yeah,

Well that's,

You know,

That's a lot of it is when we're going through change,

We're experiencing these different emotions and feelings and different kind of like realities.

Your reality is changing.

And it's the unknown,

You know.

You're not used to it.

You have to get accustomed to it,

Adjust to it.

So it's often a little awkward.

So people,

You know,

We're always,

People are generally looking for safety in their circumstances,

Which there isn't any because everything always changes.

But what they do is they try to set things up in a way where it makes them comfortable and then try to keep them like that.

And it never works.

But for the short periods of time that things are going the same way in a certain situation,

It gives them comfort.

So then all of a sudden things start changing.

And usually the automatic reaction is negativity when,

You know,

When it doesn't have to be.

Right.

Because I mean,

If you're going to have a negative reaction every time something changes that doesn't look positive from the first onset,

You're going to be getting upset a lot in your life.

Because absolutely everything changes in this reality,

You know.

So at least a little,

You know.

So if your basis for happiness is that,

You know,

Well,

I only,

The things that I like never change.

And if they do,

Then it's always has to be obvious from the onset that they are for the better.

And I have to understand that and be OK with that.

And if that's my reality,

Then I'll be happy.

If that's your rule for happiness,

You're in trouble.

Because that's just,

You know,

What I just described is not life.

It's not how it works.

So oftentimes there's going to be change and it can either look negative from the onset or it can just plain be scary just because it's change and we don't know what's to come.

You know.

Right.

That's I listened to like a couple of weeks ago,

I was listening to a podcast of Tony Robbins was talking about like the six essential needs that everyone has.

And like number two or three was change,

Spontaneity,

Surprise.

And he said specifically like people that say that they like change,

They don't.

You like you only like the change that you like.

Right.

Like you like it.

But if you don't,

You hate change.

Everyone hates change.

But you need both.

Right.

And that just made me think of that.

And really all change,

All change can be for the better if you have the right outlook.

Like I mean.

I was thinking that like most change leads you to where you're supposed to go.

Right.

It just might not be,

You know,

In a way that you think.

Like oftentimes,

You know,

Happens with people's jobs and,

You know,

All of a sudden a they'll be at a let's say they're at a job for 20 years.

And then all of a sudden they get the company gets bought out or something,

You know,

And also all this change starts coming in.

Well,

It's like,

Oh,

No,

No,

No.

I've liked where I am for 20 years.

Well,

Yeah.

But if you're not growing as a person and expanding,

Then like what you're what you are is you're just complacent.

And that's not living,

You know.

So it could come in and the the new owners could really it could be a better place.

Right.

With the changes that they make and force you to grow,

Which all of a sudden you become more of who you're supposed to be and you're more fulfilled and everything turns out wonderful.

Now,

The other option is that these new owners are horrible and they force you to leave your job.

And if you leave your job looking for other options to become more of yourself and seek out more happiness and more fulfillment,

Then that's going to be a positive change,

Too.

You know,

But people don't have a tendency to look at the long term like that.

They're just like,

Oh,

This is bad.

Oh,

I have to leave my job.

Oh,

This is horrible.

It's like it's an opportunity for you to become more of yourself.

Well,

Yeah,

But I didn't want to.

Well,

Too bad.

That's life.

Like nobody can be happy and fulfilled sitting on a couch,

Not doing anything with their lives.

Yep.

You know,

And like we are the universe is constantly expanding.

And so are we.

If we're just sitting there not doing anything with our lives,

That's not happiness and fulfillment.

That's complacency.

And honestly,

That's not really a way.

You're not living your life.

You're just kind of sitting,

Making your way through it.

Right.

You know?

Yeah.

And that's not what the universe wants for us.

You know,

The universe,

The reason we're here is supposed to be happiness and fulfillment and becoming more of ourselves.

And it's joyful,

You know?

But like,

You know,

Taco Tuesday and,

You know,

It's like,

I mean,

Shake it up,

Man.

Shake it up.

Live your life.

Don't just sit there and watch it pass you by.

Sorry,

I just got excited.

I just remembered I'm having tacos later.

Yeah.

I was going to say not that Taco Tuesdays are bad.

I like tacos.

Taco ween.

Don't ask about that.

No.

So oftentimes,

Though,

It's that negative reaction to change,

You know?

And it freaks people out.

And so,

You know,

Because they don't know what's coming,

Then they have that apprehension and that fear bubbling up within them.

And they have to deal with it.

You know,

Like in my own life,

Last week was I had to deal with some of these emotions and thoughts and some of the unconscious things that bubble up when you're in the middle of a situation that you don't know how it's going to go.

You know,

I was restructuring my business,

And I realized that I don't need as much space as I have at the Life Enhancement Center to do what really speaks to me,

What I really enjoy doing,

Which is the life coaching and spiritual advising and stuff like that.

And I mean,

Some of the big workshops I can do at other places.

So I don't need all this space.

I was going to downsize,

And I found what looked to be perfect.

You know,

This house had a converted garage that had vaulted ceilings and hardwood floor.

It would have been a beautiful business space with a separate entrance.

And then the rest of the house was really nice,

And it had a big backyard for other things that I wanted,

Like a dog and all this stuff.

So I was looking forward to moving into it,

Actually this weekend,

And then five days ago,

Six days ago or something,

I got a,

Well,

No,

Today's Monday.

So a week ago,

I got a phone call going,

Yeah,

You know,

You're supposed to move in at the end of the week,

But they're actually going to sell the house instead of rent it.

And I went,

Oh,

Okay.

And I knew enough at that moment that it was like,

Okay,

This is happening for my betterment.

If this was the best thing for me and my son and my business,

If that was the best thing that could happen to us,

Then it would be happening.

So the fact that it's not happening means that it's not the best thing for us.

You know,

I knew that.

So I didn't get all angry and freaked out.

It was over the last two weeks prior to that,

I had been,

I knew it was coming and I was getting excited about the move.

You know,

So it's,

You know,

The excitement's coming up and then all of a sudden I start looking around the place that I'm living now and kind of noticing the things that I don't like about it and going,

You know what?

This is going to be cool because I'm not going to have this anymore.

I'm going to have something better.

And boy,

You know,

And I'm envisioning myself living in this new place and I'm starting to get excited.

So I felt let down.

You know,

I didn't feel angry because I knew it was my betterment,

But all the excitement that I had for this new move,

I felt let down and I needed to deal with that.

And,

You know,

It took me a few days.

So because there's that uncertainty.

And now you throw into that my landlord at my business and home space is selling the building.

So now that they're selling the building,

So that throws another curve ball because I'm not sure if I'm staying or or going here.

I think that the new owners want me to stay,

Which is a nice feeling.

That is nice.

You know,

As far as I know,

But,

You know,

So they want me to stay.

So I think I'm OK if I don't have to move,

But I'm not completely sure.

Right.

And my business lease was up today.

So I had I had like three days left and I still didn't know if I was going to be able to keep my business here for another month until my residential lease came up and stuff.

So also I'm like,

I don't know in a few days if I'm going to have a place to run my business.

It was,

You know,

So it's kind of that's scary.

It was.

Yeah,

It was getting to me a little bit.

So I needed to push to get an answer and say,

Hey,

Listen,

This is my situation.

I need to know if I'm going to be able to continue business three days from now.

You know,

So I got an answer and they said,

Yes,

You can.

You can extend it for another month while we figure everything out.

I said,

Great.

So,

You know,

It all worked out,

Which of course I knew it was going to.

But that doesn't mean that there wasn't some fear bubbling up and some apprehension and some,

You know,

It's and all the unknown.

Well,

Where am I going to live?

Well,

Where's my business going to be?

Well,

What am I?

Is there another place?

Because that is going to be able to support me in both because what I'm looking for is very unique.

I need I need a business space separate from my living space,

But I would like them all in one building.

Like,

You know,

So those are not dime a dozen,

Especially in a town I live in.

There's very few homes to rent to begin with,

Let alone specifically having what I need.

You've you've been here for two years,

Right?

Right.

Wow.

I just forgot that we that like our business leases were exactly the same.

Oh,

Yeah.

We moved in to new places the same.

Yeah.

And we both the amount of change.

Like I just moved out of the studio this morning and there's a good chance I'll be moving out at the end of this month.

So it's it's weird how a lot of change happens at the same time.

Yeah.

And with with all of us.

And that's helpful,

Too.

You know,

Looking over the past and going,

You know,

Where was I two years from now?

Where was I five years from now?

And seeing all the different changes that have taken place.

And then it's like,

Oh,

OK.

You know,

That can kind of help settle things.

So you consciously remember that things are always changing and they do always work out for the best,

You know,

Because that's not in the forefront of our consciousness.

Subconsciously,

What's pushing us is,

No,

Let's stabilize for safety,

Stabilize for safety.

So when change comes,

We freak out.

But if you look at the past,

Things have been changing since we were born.

Right.

You know,

Like and we've always handled it.

So,

You know,

It's fine.

So so I was thinking about what you said about dealing with change that you don't want.

And and trying to,

You know,

Find it within yourself to understand that it is good for you.

Yes.

Even if you don't want it,

You know,

And like two years ago,

There was a bunch of change happening.

Yeah.

I didn't like all of it.

You know,

Really,

Like really didn't like all of it.

Better for it now.

Right.

So it's so looking back and going like,

Oh,

That thing that I hated is,

You know,

Is the reason for something that I love now.

Right.

Right.

Hindsight's 2020.

And if you can,

You know,

And you know what you just said is important,

Too,

Because,

You know,

Sometimes people will look back on something they hated and they go,

Oh,

I hated that.

Thank God that's over.

And they won't put in the other piece to they won't look to see how they grew from it.

You know,

Oftentimes we need a push.

We need something to push us.

And since the universe can't come in and interfere with our free will and say and make us do things,

It brings in situations to help us along.

So,

You know,

A lot of times,

Especially if we're living unconsciously,

The only way the universe can get our attention to guide us in a different direction is to make things get really ugly.

So we get really uncomfortable and we start changing things.

Right.

You know,

It will put us in a really difficult situation that we don't like.

And then we'll go,

I don't like this.

I need to change.

So then then then we'll take the action we need to.

But if it didn't put us in that situation,

We just would have hung out there for another 10 years or like.

No,

You're not ready for this right now.

No.

Deal with this and grow.

And if you do this,

You can have it later.

Right.

You know,

Yeah,

It's it's always for our betterment.

Like some of the a lot of the very influential spiritual teachers as well as financial success teachers,

Positive thinking teachers,

That type of stuff.

They they teach that to know that change is always for good.

And there's one of them and I forgot who it was,

But it was I believe it was a teacher referencing somebody else that they knew that they had learned this from.

And it was this guy that always said he believed that the universe was conspiring in his favor.

So it was just his complete outlook on life.

He always thought of the universe conspiring in his favor,

You know.

And it's like when you look at life in that way,

Then it's you know,

That that's that's how you can accept change.

What are you guys doing?

I just looked at David.

I can't stop laughing.

You guys are going back and forth.

You need to like,

Yeah,

Accepting change is the is the only way to like I was I was talking about this literally two days ago.

The the resistance to what is is what creates misery,

Suffering,

Suffering.

Yes,

I was like he's right there.

So if you if you stop resisting,

You stop suffering.

Right.

And to just look change like in the eye and be like,

All right,

Let's do it.

Yeah.

And,

You know,

Deal with stuff is a lot.

Yeah.

If you embrace change to the best of your ability and,

You know,

It doesn't mean everybody thinks that that like it means that you have to like it.

You know,

You have to look at it and go,

You know,

Oh,

This this looks like a complete mess.

And I don't like the way it looks.

But I'm just going to,

You know,

Pretend I'm going to lie to myself and pretend that it's wonderful.

And and I'm going to live in a world that that's not even my reality.

And I'm going to lie to myself.

And no,

That's not what that's not what we're saying at all.

You know,

What you want to do is just look at it and understand the reality that you don't know the big picture.

Yep.

You don't you don't know,

You know,

What's going to happen five years from now,

10 years from now.

You don't know what you need to work on all the time.

You don't need to know you don't know what you need to work on to get yourself to the next level often.

So if if you believe that there's some loving creator out there and it's pushing you in the direction for you to be happier,

Better version of yourself,

More loved,

More to to experience more wonderful things in this world.

If you believe in that,

If you look at things from that perspective,

All of a sudden you start seeing the change in a different way.

And it's not that you're lying to yourself.

It's just literally that you're looking at it in a different way.

How could this possibly be for my benefit?

Right.

And then all of a sudden you look for you,

Keep your eyes open and go,

OK,

I'm going to believe that this is for my betterment.

Where is it?

Where's my how could this help me?

And you're looking at things from that perspective,

You're going to find it.

But if you stay in a negative space and you go,

This is definitely horrible.

I hate this change.

This is completely bad.

All you're going to see is the bad.

And not only that,

But then you're not going to grow from it.

You're not going to get the lesson or the growth that the universe is trying to inspire you to get.

You're not going to get that.

So guess what's going to happen down the road?

Since you didn't get the lesson that time,

You're going to relive it again because the universe and it's probably going to be even more extreme because the universe is trying to get your attention.

It's trying to get you to grow and expand and become better.

And you're resisting it and you're not growing and becoming better.

So the universe just has to kick you harder and go,

Come on,

We really need you to change.

We really need you to open up.

We really need you to be happier and better.

I just keep thinking while you're talking this entire like 20 minutes that we've been doing this so far.

The analogy you kept telling us or one of us for like the last couple of years,

Just breadcrumbs.

Like just the universe giving you breadcrumbs.

Just keep following the trail.

Yeah,

That's it.

You know,

If we look at life that the universe wants the best for us,

It is.

It's giving us breadcrumbs.

And if you look at life through those eyes,

Then you're going to see the breadcrumbs and you're going to be able to follow them.

If you're not looking for positive change and you're not looking for things to become better,

Then you're probably going to get donkey kicked.

So it can get your attention so you can start looking at the breadcrumbs.

But if you're looking for them,

You'll find them and you can just continue moving forward.

That's why it's like,

You know,

I think one of the aspects of this podcast is I want people to know that I was literally on the phone getting the news that the place I was really looking forward to moving within a week,

It wasn't going to happen.

And as I was getting that news,

The first thought that came into my head,

Fortunately,

In this situation was,

It's OK,

There must be something better for me.

So that was really cool.

And I did a great job with that.

Now,

The next three days of OK,

Now what?

That's another stage.

Like,

OK,

I dealt with the initial news really well.

But then the OK,

Now what came in?

And it's even more unsettling because I didn't know what was next.

So that was where I had a little bit ups and downs.

Now,

Was it horrible?

No.

You know,

I went out and started looking for places and and talked to people.

And,

You know,

I took some action to try to try to rectify the situation,

Explore different avenues,

You know.

And then with the place that I'm at,

Being in flux on top of that was difficult.

My son had an injury I was dealing with all week right before something that was very important to him,

Which was playoffs this weekend.

So I'm dealing with his injury,

His practices,

Doctors,

All this stuff while I'm processing this.

And it wasn't easy last week.

You know,

There were times when fear came up and there were times when I was frustrated.

And there was times when I went,

Jesus,

Was that other house?

That's Glenn.

Do you understand how unique that place was that you found?

What do you think the chances are of you finding something else that's going to work for you like that?

Come on.

Are they really out there?

That's come on,

Glenn.

My mind wanted to doubt that stuff.

Those thoughts did come up.

Right.

So I just wanted,

You know,

I want people to know that spiritual living and peace and happiness does not mean you're absent of fear,

You're absent of any negative thought that can come in.

I still experience some of that.

It's just it's not overpowering.

And I can manage it.

And I have to remind myself,

Hey,

What's your philosophy on life?

What do you believe in?

Take a step back.

What's the big picture in this situation?

You know,

What's your philosophy on life and how does this fit in it?

And look for the lessons and look for,

You know,

Look for the opportunity to practice the faith that I say I have.

And that's what this week was.

You know,

It was an opportunity for me to actually live the faith that I sit there and talk about to people on a regular basis.

You know,

Because faith is wonderful when things are going well,

But they're not really tried and true until things get shaken up.

When things get shaken up,

Can you lean on your faith then?

That's that's when you really solidify the faith that you say you have.

You know,

And I'm happy with the way I handled last week.

Like I said,

It wasn't perfect.

I had some little emotions come up and down a little bit,

A couple questioning thoughts here and there.

But when they did,

I looked at them,

Dealt with them and moved on and it was fun.

And then,

You know,

A few days later,

I'm like completely at peace.

Now,

That's night and day from how I would have handled that situation years ago.

I just think that it will first two things.

One,

I think that the stages of dealing with change happens if it's good or bad change,

Because when it's good change,

You know,

You can not think that it's real.

You can resist the good change.

Right.

A lot of people don't feel deserving of it.

You don't feel like you can yourself suffer because you don't feel like it's going to happen.

That's true.

And and it's just the same thing.

You're just resisting.

You just have to accept the information in front of you and then.

Find out why it's good.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Look at it and accept it and not think,

You know,

Not wait for the other shoe to drop or not sabotage it.

Living in a wonderful situation that the universe has provided for them.

And then and they're like,

You know,

This can't be this can't be right.

It's like,

No,

That that's exactly right.

Now,

Will there be change to circumstances?

Yeah.

But it's positive change to keep you going in a in a positive direction.

You know,

So don't sabotage it just because,

You know,

Unconsciously,

You might not feel you're worthy of it.

And then the second thing is I just thought that it was really ironic that like six weeks ago,

We recorded a podcast about the tipping point and that you reach out,

You reach a point,

You know,

In a big grand scheme of things we talked about mostly,

But in a personal life where something gets to enough and then drastic change happens.

Right.

And that's kind of that's that's the way it feels here.

It's like,

But I needed to slow down to to really notice that.

And so,

You know,

What and ironically,

What slowed me down is the decision that I want to get a dog.

That's what started all this.

I just decided I work from home.

I want to get a dog.

I love dogs.

I want a dog.

And then,

You know,

My landlord going,

Yes,

You can.

But then afterwards going,

Well,

No,

Actually,

You can't.

And then I went,

Oh,

Wait,

Do I need to stay here in my business?

And it slowed me down enough to reassess my business to see if there were other options for me.

You know,

So so there's a there's a situation where somebody saying,

No,

You can't have what you want turned into a good thing for me.

Right.

You know,

And then then afterwards he he had said,

Well,

You know,

OK,

We've worked through it or something.

No,

You can have a dog.

And I was like,

Well,

Actually,

I've decided to I found this other place that looks perfect.

I'm going to go there.

So,

You know,

At the end of the day,

He said that I could have a dog here.

If he would have said yes right off the bat,

I probably never would have even thought about reassessing my business and moving,

You know,

Which the universe,

I'm pretty sure wants for me.

We'll see how this next month plays out.

But there's there's been like the last three weeks,

There hasn't been a day where something has drastically changed in one way or another to the point where like,

You know,

It starts making you think about everything.

And even though like it had nothing to like it was people all all of the people around me,

My my parents had a big issue.

My friends.

But to the point where like.

I got contemplative enough to start thinking about like,

All right,

What are you doing?

Yeah,

You know,

But that's the direction you're going.

That's and that's a good we can learn from others,

Too.

That's another example of the breadcrumbs.

You know,

If we're looking for change and how our life can go in a different direction,

We'll see it.

You know,

We don't always have to learn from pain.

We don't have to learn from negative situations all the time.

It's just generally that's how we've been conditioned.

We generally don't look until we're so uncomfortable that we're forced to.

But if as we get better at it,

You know,

We have to look we look around and be more conscious of our of our lives.

We can see from other people's situations and assess our lives.

I've assessed my business multiple times over the past couple of years,

But and I was going in the direction.

But I it's time for me to take a big step.

And I didn't know I was there yet until I was really forced to look at it.

You know,

So it's it's it's cool.

There is a lot of good change coming.

I've told you this a couple of times in the last few weeks.

I keep going back to the first episode we ever did.

And like you're like credo that you had when I first met you.

Yeah,

Which is the just the quote of,

You know,

Happiness is the journey,

Not the destination.

And a means of travel.

It's a means of travel.

Yeah.

And like just sometimes you got to reassess and go.

Am I still walking in that?

Yeah.

You know,

And it's kind of the path changes.

It's kind of constantly reassessing because we're literally different people than we were two years ago.

Right.

We've learned from our experiences.

We've grown.

We've become more capable and more,

You know,

More expansive.

So the things that we're capable of now are completely different from two years ago.

And I look at it and I go two years with this this life enhancement center.

Two years.

That's like I've had crappy jobs that I hated for three years.

Right.

Before I got the Glenn.

You cannot continue doing this anymore.

Like you there's something else calling you get the heck out of this job no matter what it takes.

I've been doing those for three years.

This only took me two years.

So my and it's been a lot of positive change.

So I see that I'm learning from positivity instead of negativity now.

And that the amount of change that can happen in two years is dramatic.

You know,

So which is wonderful.

So it's time to wrap this one up to if people are dealing with change or they want to kick start some change and they want some help.

How do they get a hold of you?

Wow,

That was good.

They can get a hold of me at life dash enhancement dash services and just shoot me an email or give me a call and I'll return a message.

And yeah,

Just reach out and it's there is a lot of change happening right now.

And it's funny because I'm seeing an influx of clients,

Which is wonderful.

And it's because people are embracing the change or they're uncomfortable enough where they're saying I need to but I don't know what to do.

So so it's it's it's awesome getting to work with people in those situations because they are they're at their own personal tipping point.

And once they get some guidance,

It just flows forward really quickly,

Easily and nicely.

So all right.

All right.

Well,

Thanks for listening,

Everybody.

And we'll talk to you soon.

A lovely talk, it made me think a lot about how to embrace change in a better way. "What can I learn from this" I loved that thought, so simple but such a mindset change. "The universe is working for me" was another one I truly loved.
