You're awake earlier than you'd like.
That's okay.
There's nowhere you need to be right now.
Simply allowing the body to settle back into the surface beneath you and then whenever it feels natural,
Gently allowing the eyes to close.
Perhaps noticing the natural rhythm of the breath as it is right now.
Not changing anything,
Simply noticing it as it breathes itself.
Maybe noticing the coolness of the breath as it moves in.
The warmth of the breath against the lip as it moves out.
Perhaps noticing where the inhale begins and where the exhale ends.
Simply observing the breath as it breathes itself right now.
And now perhaps beginning to notice the weight of your body,
The heaviness of the limbs.
Feeling the surface beneath you,
The way it supports the full length of your back and body.
Perhaps noticing the backs of the legs resting heavily against the bed.
The shoulders softening.
The hands resting down by your side.
Perhaps noticing the warmth of the bed around you.
Feeling the weight of the covers over you.
Simply allowing the body to feel a little heavier with each breath out.
Sinking just a little more.
Melting into the surface beneath you.
The mind may begin drifting towards thoughts of the day that's completely natural.
We simply begin by lightly resting our awareness on the body,
Allowing it to drift away as it will.
Then whenever we happen to realize our mind has wandered,
Simply and effortlessly returning,
To resting our awareness back on our body as our anchor.
Letting go of your body,
Simply resting your awareness lightly on your breath now.
Perhaps noticing the coolness moving in,
The warmth moving out.
Simply allowing the body to breathe itself right now.
Simply allowing the breath to be your anchor right now.
Whenever you happen to realize your mind has wandered,
Simply returning gently back to the breath.
Drifting away,
Drifting back,
Gently and effortlessly returning to resting your awareness on your breath as your anchor right now.
Simply resting now,
The night still around you.
Resting here.
