Hey,

Darling,

There is a kind of listening that lives below the noise.

Not the listening you do with your ears.

But the listening you do with your body.

This is somatic awareness.

Now,

The word somatic comes from the Greek word soma,

Which simply means body.

But way before that word existed,

Indigenous cultures,

As well as ancestral traditions across every single continent,

Had already built entire healing practices around this very truth.

That the body is sacred and it also speaks.

And therefore,

Somatic awareness is exactly what it sounds like.

It is the practice of becoming aware of what exactly is happening inside your body in real time.

Not what you think is happening.

Not what you've been told is happening.

But what is physically?

Since really true.

Right now in your body.

I want you to see that your body has been talking to you your entire life,

Long before you even had the language for it.

It's that tight feeling.

In your chest before a hard conversation.

It's the way our shoulders kind of creep up towards our ears when we are feeling extremely overwhelmed.

It's also the heaviness in your belly that arrives when you don't know.

The why.

That is not random.

That's actually clear information.

You see,

The nervous system is constantly sending signals.

From the environment.

From your relationship.

And also from your history.

It is storing that information in your body.

And it's not just.

Sitting in your mind.

It's in your tissues.

It's in your breath.

It's in the way that you even hold your tongue and jaw.

Most of us are never.

Taught to.

Pay attention to all of that.

We are taught to push it away,

Push through it,

To think our way out of how we feel.

And to override the body's signal in favor of what needed to get done.

You know,

We do that all the time.

And so we learn this very early and therefore we stop listening.

Somatic awareness is the practice of learning to listen again.

It doesn't require special equipment or even any special tools.

It actually starts Really simply,

With the breath.

And it also starts with one simple question.

What do I notice right now?

Not what do I think or what should I feel like or what do I need to notice.

It starts in our hands.

Maybe it's the tension and awareness.

Of feeling our face.

Maybe it's the kind of aliveness that is happening even in the chest.

When we're feeling happy,

Enjoy us.

Whatever it is.

That noticing,

That observation is a practice within itself.

And here's what really matters.

When we develop the ability to feel what is actually happening inside of us,

We start to move through life.

So much differently.

The beautiful part is that we are able to catch those moments of stress before they become a crazy breakdown.

We recognize that grief,

When it starts to bubble to the top,

And before it becomes numbness.

We also notice the joy.

Before it even slips away.

And in those moments,

We become the truest scent.

Of pure presence.

Actually,

That is the beautiful gift.

Of somatic awareness.

It's not a technique.

It's not a quick fix.

But it is a relationship with God.

Ourselves.

A living,

Breathing,

Constantly updating relationship to the truest essence of who we are inside.

So darling.

I want you to remember this.

You were born with everything.

You need for this practice.

Your body has been here patiently waiting.

Calmly.

For you.

To return.

To your soul.
