Welcome to this guided Root Chakra meditation.

I'm Elizabeth Caroline.

Today we will begin our practice with setting the intention of grounding and stabilising the subtle energies of the body and mind.

Working with visualisation techniques and our open awareness.

When we are energetically rooted in our bodies our mind naturally drifts to a calmer and more peaceful place.

This meditation can be done whilst lying down,

Sitting on a chair with your feet firmly on the floor or whilst sitting on a meditation cushion.

Take a few moments to settle yourself.

Ensure that you are comfortable and your back is supported if needed.

Relax your shoulders.

Allow your neck to be long.

And imagine you have a soft ball resting gently underneath your chin.

You can place your hands in your lap or down by your sides.

If you are in a sitted position,

Gently sway your body side to side inviting yourself to settle in your natural balanced position.

Relax your jaw and let your eyes soften or close if you wish.

Breathing softly through your nose,

Become aware of the gentle in and out movement of your breath.

Taking time to notice the lowest place in the body where you can feel the rising and sinking of your breathing.

Wherever it may be in your body,

Taking very natural relaxed breaths,

Just gently bring your awareness to this place.

Rest in your focus here.

Take a moment to tune in to how the breath feels.

Noticing any sensations that may arise in the body from this place.

Now expand your attention to your entire physical body.

Taking a moment to bring your awareness to any areas of tension or tightness.

Just allowing your awareness to rest here for a few moments.

Not trying to change anything.

Not trying to do anything.

Just simply remaining present with the sensations you notice within the body.

The chakra systems have come to the west through the tradition and practice of yoga.

A discipline designed to bring together the individual self with the divine.

Yoga uses mental and physical practices that join our daily and spiritual lives together.

The Sanskrit word for chakra literally translates as will or disc.

It refers to a spinning sphere of energy that receives,

Assimilates and expresses our own life force energy.

There are seven major chakras of the body.

They are not physical entities,

Just like feelings and ideas they cannot be held.

Yet they have a strong effect on the body as they express the embodiment of spiritual energy on a physical plane.

Today we will be working with the first major chakra of the body,

Muludara.

Also known as the root or base chakra.

This energy centre is located at the base of our spine.

Its central issue is survival and self preservation.

It's the energy centre that grounds and holds us with stability and support.

It's light to the earth element and resonates with the colour red.

When our root chakra is in balance we feel stable,

Secure,

Trusting,

Even fearless.

When it is out of balance we can feel anxious,

Resentful,

Restless,

Undisciplined and disconnected.

Let's begin by bringing your awareness to the places where your body connects to the earth.

Take a moment to feel how gravity roots you to the chair or the cushion or the bed that you're lying or sitting on.

Notice how you feel held by the chair or the earth.

Just notice the feeling of stability this brings.

Now begin to imagine a beautiful glowing ball of red light resting gently above your head.

Don't worry too much about the size or the exact colour.

Just be aware of this soothing healing light that it emanates.

A ball of pure energy.

And as your awareness rests here you begin to sense the light has started to travel down from the crown of your head down to the top of your spine.

And with each inhalation and exhalation the light slowly continues to move downwards gently filling the spine with its soft and subtle glow.

Slowly and steadily moving down each vertebrae one by one.

Relaxing and softening.

And as the light reaches the base of your spine it continues to flow downwards from the place your body connects with the earth into the soil below you.

Extending from your body like a pillar of light travelling down deeply into the earth's core.

Rooting,

Grounding and stabilising you.

You notice how the light connects you firmly to the earth,

Holding you safely.

Now move your attention to the base of your spine right at the front of your body just at the bottom of your pubic bone.

And imagine how the ball or wheel of energy has moved from the top of your head and is now resting here.

Just notice the beautiful ball of energy emanating light.

You are stable in your physical body as this rooted light holds you.

And you can sense this wonderful ball of energy at the base of your spine.

Just hold your attention here for a few moments,

Bringing your focus to this place.

And as you stay here you may begin to notice tingling sensations or a sense of warmth from this area.

You may not sense anything at all,

Neither is right or wrong.

Now bring your attention to the base of the pillar of light deep within the earth beneath you.

And imagine this pillar of red light is able to draw up the energy from the earth's core,

Cleansing,

Grounding and restorative energy from Mother Earth.

And as this energy continues upwards towards your body,

Feel it moving slowly towards the places your body touches the ground.

And gently feel it enter the lower body,

Slowly travelling up through your toes,

Your feet,

Through your ankles,

The lower legs,

Through your knees and your thighs and into your pelvis.

And as this beautiful red or brown coloured energy flows up through the body,

You notice how it begins to flow into the ball of energy that continues to rest at the base of your spine.

Gently and slowly fill in the Muladhara chakra with this restorative energy drawn from the earth.

And as the energy continues to flow freely,

You notice how the ball of energy begins to have more clarity,

More light,

More vibrancy.

It may expand within your body,

It may begin to spin or it may just rest as it is.

All of it is fine.

Just allow.

And the clearer or larger this ball of light becomes,

You notice how you begin to feel more grounded,

More stable,

More energised.

You feel safe.

You feel secure.

You feel stable.

You are connected.

You are rooted.

You are strong.

Take a moment to notice how resting in the spiritual essence of Muladhara feels for you.

And as the pillar of light starts to draw back into your body from Mother Earth,

The ball of energy remains within your being,

Clear,

Bright and expansive.

You sense how the energy flows freely.

This presence rooting your being to the earth,

Keeping you balanced,

Stable and safe.

Allow the light to travel back up through the body to the top of your head,

Bringing your attention to the crown of your head.

Take some time to simply notice how your body feels.

You may notice how previous areas of tension may have softened,

Or maybe your awareness is drawn to where you can allow yourself to let go a little more.

Simply present,

Simply aware,

Grounded yet open.

And as we come to the end of today's meditation practice,

Gently begin to bring your awareness to the edges of your body.

Bring your attention to your fingers and your toes.

Gently moving them.

And if you are sitting you can sway your body again side to side.

And when you feel ready,

You can slowly open your eyes and be open to the remainder of your day.

Thank you for your presence today.

Thank you for your practice.
