Darkness Says: Winter Solstice Poem

I say to the darkness, and the darkness says: A poem written in honour of our human experience and the darkness all around us. I hope this might bring you solace if you are feeling the grief of the world, are going through a time of loneliness or descent, or are struggling with the darkness of the season.

I say to the darkness and the darkness says I am alone and lost I'm so sad, I'm grieving I don't want to get old and sick and see those I love suffer and die I'm scared I'm scared of the shadows I'm scared of what's to come I've done bad things and hurt those I love I have neglected myself and others I'm harming the earth She bleeds and I howl I am entangled in webs of harm And the darkness says I will hold you no matter what Everything belongs in me Everything is born from darkness and to darkness will return My monsters have lessons to teach you and power to share I also house a vastness of dreams and stars Be not afraid Your screams and tears, They run into my rivers Down the ages, They meet with reservoirs of wisdom from harvests past Compost, Deposits of myth And seeds yet to germinate I am an eternity wrapped around you and within you The light from my stars that reaches you, Reaches you now years after their death You have a home here Welcome to my mystery My depths My silence Rest here in the dark
