Your pelvis is the origin and the initiator.
This has of course enormous deep cosmic implications in terms of metaphor and poetry and it also has this very physiological basis.
The pelvis is the origin,
It is the initiator,
The pelvic floor is the initiator of your autonomic nervous system responses.
So if through the HPA axis the hypothalamus in your brain sets off a fight response,
A flight response,
It is your pelvic floor that tenses first,
Which sends a cascade of reactions up through your body.
You might notice your jaw getting tense,
Your biceps tensing,
Your back kind of bracing to fight for example.
But this begins in the pelvic floor.
In Ayurveda the pelvis is the home of vata.
So vata is connected to the air,
To ether,
It's very powerful energy but it's really the regulatory system that,
You can see the similarity with the nervous system here.
Vata is the regulator and the initiator,
It is the mover of energy of the different types of dosha,
It's behind the movement of prana.
And vata,
Vata's home is the pelvis.
So we begin to see this like depth of knowledge that crosses science and ancient medicine and I think at some level we all know or we can remember.
And there are many reasons why we leave our pelvis,
Why we leave our pelvis with our embodiment and our attention.
Yeah and yet your pelvis is like this deep well of renewal,
A wellspring of potency,
Of depth,
The darkness,
The void,
Yes,
Spiraling into creativity,
New life,
Burgeoning,
Juiciness,
All there in the matrix at your center,
Your somatic center for women,
Your center of gravity.
And this is the same throughout the life cycle,
So when I talk about renewal and creativity I'm not just talking about fertility,
Talking about the creative spark,
The life force,
Which manifests in different ways throughout your life.
So you know it's very,
It's very simple coming home to ourselves in a very real,
Felt,
Experienced way when you get that sense of relief,
You can breathe deeply once more.
We can come here quite fast through touch,
Through connecting with our pelvis,
With our own hands.
When we do this,
When we meet our own tissues,
Our bones,
The sacrum,
The hips,
The womb space,
The perineum,
When we devote our touch to our own tissues,
Transformation can happen really fast.
And some of the obstacles that we might have to cross,
There are many,
There are some common themes though,
One of them might be a sense of shame,
Of associating this area solely with sex,
Or having a contorted view of it through comments made by family or lovers,
Or in the media,
A collective gaze that is estranging us,
Does estrange us from our own bodies.
There might be layers,
Deep layers of grief,
Of fear,
Having experienced traumas or boundary violations,
Your yoni,
Your pelvis,
Perhaps as a whole,
But perhaps it's in very specific places,
Your cervix or your vaginal walls,
They may have emotions to express.
This is quite natural and you do not need to be afraid,
Though you may want help,
You may want support and to find a practitioner to work with.
Any practitioner you work with is going to be,
Is only going to be instrumental in helping you return to yourself,
To know that your body is yours,
Your pelvis,
Your yoni is your inner sanctum,
Your support,
Your home,
Your creative matrix.
There are so many beautiful metaphors and analogies that appear through my practice and that will appear in yours,
What your pelvis can mean for you.
This is an opportunity and a great source of hope and renewal.
It's counter cultural and it's really what we need in this time of mass crisis.
There's nothing more essential than being able to ground ourselves,
Center ourselves and touch once again,
Remember,
Remembering,
Feeling once more the wellspring of life.
