Welcome to Finding Balance in Compassion.
This brief practice is for anyone in a caregiving role,
Whether you provide care for others through your work or at home.
There are moments when caregiving can feel emotionally heavy.
While we can't always change the circumstances that those we are caring for are facing,
We can learn to remain present.
And compassionate.
Without carrying the weight of every outcome.
Inspired by Kristin Neff's work on self-compassion for caregivers,
This practice is an invitation to reconnect with a sense of steadiness before returning to those in your care.
And like to invite you now to settle into a comfortable position.
Feeling free to lower your eyes or close them if that feels comfortable.
Taking one slow,
Deep breath in through the nose.
And letting it go through the mouth.
Just settling here Now bringing to mind someone you're currently caring for.
Perhaps a client.
A child.
A parent.
A partner or even a beloved pet.
Simply allowing them.
To gently come to mind.
Noticing what you feel as you think about them.
Perhaps concern.
Tenderness.
Sadness.
Whatever is here is welcome.
Your capacity for compassion is one of your greatest strengths.
Because you care so deeply,
It's only natural to wish you could make everything better.
And gently offering yourself these reminders.
I can care deeply.
I can offer kindness.
I can offer my presence.
I can offer my best.
Effort.
At the same time.
I cannot control every outcome.
Everyone is on their own journey.
Noticing what it feels like.
To hold both truths at the same time.
Taking a slow breath in.
And a gentle breath out I care deeply.
And I don't have to carry the weight of every outcome.
The quality of our care.
Isn't measured by whether we can solve every problem.
It's reflected in how we continue to show up.
With presence.
With compassion.
With care.
As you take in one more slow breath.
Just noticing if there's just a little more space.
A little more steadiness around what you're carrying.
And when you're ready.
Gently bringing your attention back to the room.
Taking your time.
If your eyes are closed,
Just gently blinking them open.
And continuing to carry this sense of steadiness with you.
As you continue your day.
