Hello,
Friends.
Before we begin.
Find a nice comfortable space either sitting down or lying down.
Gently close your eyes.
Roll your shoulders back a couple of times.
Notice where you're holding any tension in your body and try to let go.
As an adult,
Naturally life feels like it goes by a million miles per minute.
Between work responsibilities,
Family,
And trying to maintain an active social life.
The weeks can often accidentally blur into each other.
I invite you to take a few minutes to find some peace within the chaos.
So not waiting for everything to stop.
But instead carving out some time.
To temporarily pause.
Today,
We'll be practicing box breathing.
It's a breathing exercise that's good for reducing stress,
Calming your mind,
And improving your focus.
In this moment,
No to-do lists exist.
It's just you,
Me,
And your breath.
So let's start by noticing your natural,
Normal breath.
Don't try to change it,
Just notice.
Notice what your breath feels like physically,
So what it feels like going through your body.
Notice if you can feel any changes of temperature as you breathe in and out,
Maybe against your upper lip.
Or in your nostrils as well.
And then notice the quality of your breath.
So notice how shallow you might be breathing or how deep.
Um.
.
.
How your breathing might be.
Really,
Really normal today.
Depending on your circumstances,
Depending on.
Maybe if you just woke up or depending on how your day is going so far.
Okay,
So now let's start our box breathing practice.
So let's inhale slowly for four seconds through your nose and fill your lungs.
For a count of one,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five.
Pause,
Keeping the air in your lungs without breathing in or out.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Now exhale,
Slowly releasing the air through your mouth until your lungs are empty.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four.
And pause again and wait with empty lungs for a count of four.
One,
Two,
Three.
Two,
Three,
Four.
Let's repeat this for a few more rounds together.
Okay,
So let's go back to inhaling slowly for four seconds through your nose,
Fill up your lungs.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four.
Pause,
Keeping the air in your lungs without breathing in or out.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four.
And then exhale,
Slowly releasing the air through your mouth,
Waiting for your lungs to be completely empty.
One.
Two,
Three,
Four,
And pause again,
Waiting with empty lungs for a count of four.
1,
2,
3,
4.
Now let's go again.
So inhale slowly for a count of four.
Through your nose,
Filling up your lungs.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four.
Pause.
Keeping all of that air in your lungs.
No breathing.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five.
And exhale slowly releasing all of that air through your mouth until your lungs are completely empty.
One,
Two,
Three.
To 3.
.
.
Four.
Now pause again and wait with empty lungs for a count of four at the bottom of the breath.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four.
Okay,
And now let's go again.
So inhale through your nose for a count of four,
Filling up your lungs.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four.
Pause keeping the air in your lungs at the top of your breath.
One,
Two,
Three.
Two,
Three,
Four.
Exhale,
Slowly release that air from your mouth until your lungs are very empty.
One,
Two,
Three.
Four,
Then let's pause again,
Waiting with empty lungs for a count of four.
One,
Two,
Three.
3.
.
.
For.
And let's go again.
So inhale slowly,
Slowly,
The slowest you've had,
You've done so far.
For four seconds through your nose and fill your lungs.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five.
Pause at the top of the breath,
Keeping the air in your lungs without breathing in or out.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four.
Then exhale,
Slowly releasing the air through your mouth,
Waiting for your lungs to be nice and empty.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four.
Pause again and wait with empty lungs for a count of four.
One,
Two,
Three,
Four.
Okay,
And we'll repeat this one more time.
All together.
So inhale nice and slow,
Four seconds through your nose,
Filling your lungs,
One,
Two,
Three,
Four.
Pause,
Keeping the air in your lungs.
At the top of the breath without breathing in or out,
One,
Two.
To three,
Four,
Exhale,
Slowly releasing the air through your mouth until your lungs are empty.
One,
Two,
3.
.
.
For And then let's pause again and wait with empty lungs at the bottom of the breath for a count of four.
One,
Two,
Three.
3.
.
.
4.
.
.
Great job.
So on your next inhale,
Let's go back to normal breathing.
Feel your lungs go up.
Fill up with air and down.
Noticing how you feel now after that set of box breathing.
Again,
Noticing your breath,
Noticing to see if there's any changes in your breath so far.
And noticing to see if there's any change in your mindset as well.
As a byproduct of this beautiful focus on the breath.
So thank you for practicing with me today.
Carry the sense of peace and steady awareness with you out into the rest of your day.
Into the rest of your night.
