Gratification delay.

This is great mental training.

Highest order to regulate emotions,

Nervous system,

Compulsions,

Addictive bents,

Yearnings,

Cravings,

Greeds,

Whatever.

Let it taunt you.

Give you FOMO,

YOLO,

It doesn't matter.

Cheapest air flight,

One seat left at this price.

Almost sold out.

We've all seen this.

See how much you need it tomorrow.

We love to be sold to,

Feel we need things and want that instant dopamine.

Done.

Now.

Got it.

After four or five days,

You might not want that or maybe not as much.

It's a great litmus test.

You'll strengthen that ability to say not now,

If never.

I've had to do this for years,

Knowing how close I've been to major breakthroughs,

Yet waiting months and months and more months.

Is there a lesson there?

There sure is.

That shiny object is shiny because I make it shiny or someone else has.

And then I reshine it,

Whether it's money,

Comfort,

Pleasure,

Visibility,

Career advancement,

Vacation plans,

Home furnishings,

Accoutrements,

Clothing.

It all comes gift wrapped in that feeling of me being special.

Do I need this?

Do I need that?

I could use this.

That would make my life easier.

Sure.

It could all be nice.

You need only you.

The rest are just toppings.

Otherwise,

You begin to substitute the external for the internal.

There will always be a new mountain to climb,

Goal to conquer,

Insight to possess.

Delaying gratification is saying I will have that item or that breakthrough without begging for it,

Without selling my soul for it,

Without feeling like a nobody if it doesn't come to me now or ever.

Not I am enough.

I am more than enough.

Whatever it is I want,

I have to develop double the amount of self gratification to override whatever the amount it feels like that thing is going to fill me with.

We do that math to counterbalance it.

This is how empty people become empty.

They flush out their self rewarding energetic bank accounts.

You've got to fill that up.

You don't even need validation when you are doing the work,

When you are becoming and being a creature of constant productivity.

To make.

Make love.

Make joy.

Make miracles.

Make peace.

Make dinner.

Make reservations.

Make time.

Make.

It feels good to make.

It's in the making.

Make it happen.

Make it a double.

Make it work.

Instead of that meddling,

Needling,

Weedling,

Cajoling,

Undermining,

Nagging from that sparkling,

Promising,

Intrusive,

I'm your new best friend fantasy,

Idea,

Or material article.

Replace that with making something concrete on your own.

Exacted by your hands and mechanism.

You sit back and examine.

That came from you.

Like a born baby.

Fed,

Nurtured,

Birthed,

And tended to.

You didn't buy it on an internet shopping platform.

You created it.

You built it,

Named it,

And breathed life into it.

It's got your DNA,

Your flair,

Your touch.

Delay the gratification.

Even the mishaps that you feel you need to handle right away or else your day will be sunk.

Practice putting that off too.

Just another false gratification that will get resolved.

You can get back to your normally scheduled program.

Priority.

The world will continue.

Not to get caught in the web of it passing you by.

And if it does,

So what?

It wasn't really that important to begin with.

You need to be flexible,

Resilient,

No monkeying around.

By your latest whim,

Your 10 second video attention indulgence.

Short videos indoctrinate and train us to eat the kibbles.

And ignore the longer path.

The noble path.

The slow journey.

The steadfast one.

The righteous and rewarding end.

The long suffering tread.

Tuck in.

Put that insta-gratifying to bed.

Insta,

Insta,

Insta.

Instead,

Be the gratification inside.

So you don't need to reach for it every other moment.

Make it consistent,

Hearty,

Wholesome,

Like the long game plan that will move in stages and build you into that self-possessed,

Self-fulfilled soul.
