I'm going to tell you a little story about monkeys,

Coconuts,

And rice.

The story dates back to ancient China.

They would take a coconut and make a little hole in the outside and then hollow out all the coconut meat from the center.

And then inside the coconut they would put some rice.

And towards the end of the day they would take these hollowed out coconuts with the rice and place them along the path where the monkeys like to run at night.

And as the sun would start to set the monkeys would come out to play.

They would find their favorite path and they would start to smell the rice.

They would get so excited that they had found food.

They would grab the coconut and stick their little monkey hand in the hole.

They would grab a big fistful of rice and try and pull it back out.

But the opening was just big enough for the little monkey hand to go in.

But once it had a fistful of rice they couldn't pull it back out.

So the monkey was trapped.

He was a prisoner of his own making.

At that moment in time he thought he'd never find food again.

So what is your rice?

What are you holding on to so tightly that it's making you a prisoner?

It's making you feel trapped.

Maybe it's a job you think you'll never find another one that pays that well.

Maybe it's a relationship you won't find anyone else to love you.

Maybe it's your children having too tight of a grip on them.

But going through life with an open palm instead of a clenched fist brings in so many more opportunities for us.

So can you let go of the rice?

Can you open your hand for something new to come in?

Can you open your hand for something new to come in?

Can you open your hand for something new to come in?

Can you open your hand for something new to come in?

So simple, so powerful, so true. Letting go is hard, and absolutely necessary for our well being and our life.

Lovely meditation, especially if you're having trouble letting go of something. I. Opulent think of anything this morning but I think it works anyway!
