Hey again,
It's Davin.
Thanks for joining me for the final practice in this series of meditations created to help you uncover and discover your freest and most authentic voice.
As a lifelong singer and a coach of 20 years,
I know first-hand the healing and transformational power of singing and the voice.
That's why I've committed my life to using my voice and helping other people just like you use theirs.
In this last practice,
We will explore joyful,
Exuberant,
Expressive,
And robust sound making.
Or rather,
We're just going to have some fun and sing.
We'll begin by settling into our body and our breath,
And then we'll follow the momentum of the practice and the accompanying soundscape into expressive,
Free-form,
Full-out singing.
You'll likely enjoy this experience most if you're able to use it in a time and a place without the fear of being interrupted or maybe even heard.
If that's not possible,
Don't worry.
Maybe just consider this final practice a call to courage,
An opportunity to face head on the real fear of being heard.
Just remember,
I'm here with you in both voice and heart.
So if you're ready,
Let's begin.
Go ahead and settle in,
In either a comfortable seat or even standing with your feet firmly placed on the floor.
It's important that you feel supported by your chair,
Cushion,
Or the ground beneath you.
Once you've landed,
Go ahead and close your eyes or softly gaze ahead.
And just a moment in awareness that you are sitting or standing.
What is it like to be in this body doing this in this moment?
When you feel a bit more still,
Begin to notice that you are breathing,
That there is an inhale,
And there is an exhale.
And there is likely somewhere on your body where the breath calls your attention.
Maybe in your nose,
Your mouth,
Your chest,
Or your belly.
Wherever your attention lands,
Keep it there and ever so slowly deepen and elongate your breath.
Inhale.
Exhale.
If other thoughts grab your attention,
No problem.
Gently bring back your focus to your body into this ever deepening breath.
Now see if you can send your inhalation even deeper into your abdomen.
Maybe into your pelvis and your hips.
Your legs.
Even down into your feet.
Maybe into the ground below.
Notice the strength and energy and stability that comes with this breath.
It almost charges your exhale,
Carrying with it the possibility of a deep,
Strong,
Full sound.
With that in mind,
Go ahead and let the sound begin to flow on and with your exhale.
Inhale or with it.
Feel free to draw upon what you hear in the music.
There's no right or wrong here.
Just allow each breath,
Each inhalation to be the inspiration for a new and unique sound.
As you use your voice,
Notice the way it makes you feel.
Notice where it buzzes in your body.
There's no reason to judge this.
Just notice whatever the sound is.
Let it be.
In fact,
Enjoy it.
Let's begin to add more energy and explore further.
Low sounds and high sounds.
Use consonants and vowels.
You can literally go wherever you want.
Long sounds,
Short sounds,
Slow sounds and fast sounds.
Use your voice,
Raise your voice.
Explore.
Sing.
Let's begin to add more energy and explore further.
Let's begin to add more energy and explore further.
If your body needs to move,
Let it.
You are your body.
You are your voice.
Sing my friend.
Sing.
Let's begin to add more energy and explore further.
Let's begin to add more energy and explore further.
Now slowly,
Gradually,
Bring your voice within.
Still enjoying its buzz and its resonance.
Each sound becoming slower and softer until the sound is only inside.
Rest your mouth closed and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Be with your body and be with your breath.
Let's begin to add more energy and explore further.
Let's begin to add more energy and explore further.
When the time feels right,
Go ahead and open your eyes.
Look around.
Take in this world.
How do you feel?
My friend,
Your voice is amazing.
And if you don't believe that,
Trust me that it's true.
See,
Your voice is amazing because it is you and there is no one in this world that sounds like you and no one that ever will.
For that reason alone,
You owe it to yourself and to all of us to use your voice with more fearlessness and freedom.
Now this takes time and practice,
But a commitment to this journey will inevitably result in healing,
Growth and joyful transformation.
Who doesn't want that?
Thank you for allowing me to accompany you on this journey.
Until we meet again,
Peace.
