Are you ready?
To meditate.
With Kari.
Climb up into bed.
Awe.
Get relaxed wherever you're at.
Make sure that you're wearing your cozy clothes.
Either pajamas or sweats.
Something that you feel comfy in.
Something that you feel safe in.
You can close your eyes and start to let go of your day.
Heidi Cherry VEA.
Toka and Leo we're all going with.
One of their Very.
Very special friends.
To school.
They were all in the taxi with their friend.
Going to school.
We're going to keep this friend's name.
Anonymous.
Purely because.
She could be you.
She could be me.
She could be he.
She could be anybody.
But for this story.
She is a sweet,
Sweet she.
The dogs and the cats were all in the taxi with their bestie friend,
Going to her first day of school with her.
Apparently the school had been notified and they were cool with it.
Were a core school that agreed that some kids would probably be much more comfortable if they could bring their pets for the first day of school.
How cool is that?
Wow.
These were all our best friends,
Heidi,
Cherry,
And Vea,
And Tucker,
And Leo.
Were her friends,
So she was bringing them.
Cherry was very excited.
OMG!
OMG!
I can't wait!
I can't wait!
I can't wait!
You know what's gonna be my favourite thing to do?
My favouritest thing to do?
Heidi said.
What is it?
Cherry said.
To share me lunch,
I want to switch and swap.
Someone's got chocolate pudding and I've got got rubbish vanilla pudding then I'm sharing I'm like gonna be like it Do you wanna swap?
You wanna swap?
Heidi said,
Mum didn't pack us pudding for lunch.
Cherry said,
Even more reason for me to be swapping and changing and sharing.
Bea said,
I want,
I want to be able to wear one of those uniforms.
You know,
The school uniform that has the little pleated skirt and the,
The,
The shirt and the tie and the jacket.
I think they're so cute.
Instead,
Today,
Vea was wearing one of her favourite dresses.
It was sunshine yellow,
And it had a big ribbon around the waist that tied in the back in a big yellow bow.
Shed yellow frilly socks on and flat ballerina shoes.
The ballerina shoes were pink.
She thought that that was pretty cute because it was just a little dash of different colour.
A friend.
Was nervous.
She was chewing on her bottom lip.
But at the same time.
They could all sense that she was very excited about school.
Tucker especially.
He took a big deep breath and sniffed.
You smell delicious today.
He got up close to her.
He sniffed around her ears.
Stop sniffing my ears,
Tucker.
That's gross.
Tucker said,
Oh,
No,
No,
No,
No,
No,
No,
No.
You know,
If I smell in your ears,
I can smell your brain.
No,
I can't.
But I can smell your thoughts.
I can smell your feelings.
I can definitely smell your feelings because they change what you smell like on your body.
Did you know that?
If you're really,
Really,
Really,
Really,
Really,
Really,
Really,
Really,
Really,
Really,
Really happy.
.
.
You smell sweeter.
And if you're really,
Really,
Really,
Really,
Really,
Really,
Really,
Really,
Really,
Really scared.
.
.
You smell like moooore!
I said it.
Cherry said.
You're so gross.
Are you actually talking about perspirating?
I decide.
Perspiration.
Perspiration.
No,
But I think I was right,
Weren't I?
Perspirating is when you get sweaty.
Heidi said,
You're right,
But he's actually talking about the topic of perspiration.
So it's a different word.
Oh,
Okay.
Are you actually over there talking about perspiration?
Tooker said.
Are you talking about Sweaty Pits?
Or Sweaty Toes?
Yes I am because Stewie are my favourite.
He went to snuggle and snuff his nose under his friend's armpit and she said,
No way,
Tucker.
She giggled really loud.
You're so weird.
But you smell delicious.
You know what?
Just side note.
Everybody that meets you is gonna go,
Wow,
She smells delicious.
Leo said that would be a weird thing to happen to her on her first day of school if everybody stopped her and told her she smelled delicious.
It would be weird,
Yes,
But it would be very nice,
Wouldn't it?
Wouldn't it?
Wouldn't it?
She smiled at him because it would be kind of nice to be told that you smell delicious all day.
But also weird,
Like Leo said.
Yes.
Yes,
Very,
Very weird.
And besides that,
Leo said,
There probably not going to be dogs who she makes friends with.
They're going to be kids.
So kids don't have the same sense of smell as dogs.
So they won't be able to know if she smells acidic or scared or happy or sweet.
They won't know.
She smiled at Leo and said,
Oh,
Thank goodness.
Thanks for that,
Leo.
Tucker interrupted and tried to shove his nose under her armpit once again,
Making her laugh because it tickled so much.
You do smell delicious though!
Okay,
Okay.
C'est tout cas.
What's da plan?
What's the plan?
As soon as these taxi door opens,
What's the plan?
Do we,
Do we hit the ground running?
Do we walk into school acting really,
Really cool?
Like,
Like,
Like,
Cool like Fonzie?
Do we act like we're the most amazing person in the world?
She grimaced at him and said,
I'm not the most amazing person in the world.
Oh,
That's a mistake.
That means I'm gonna have to sniff,
Sniff all over your face.
Took her and leaned in to start sniffing her nose and her cheeks and her ears,
And she was giggling,
Pushing him away.
Stop that,
She said.
You are amazing.
You are amazing!
Everybody in the car started saying it.
I am amazing.
Cherry said,
OMG,
I don't have a problem with this at all.
I'm so cool,
So funny.
I'm so,
So,
So easy to get along with.
You watch,
All your friends that's going to be your friends that you don't even know yet are going to love you because of me.
They're going to be like,
Oh my god,
We love that cat so much.
Can we be your friend?
Just so they can be my friend.
Took a sad cherry that's not what I'm saying I'm saying that she's awesome and she needs to see that she's awesome and walk in there like she owns that school Well,
You know,
Like she's a nice person,
At least.
The taxi stopped.
Everybody went quiet in the call.
The taxi driver opened the door and they all piled out.
They had the little backpacks with the lunches in and all of that fun stuff and then they walked into school.
And then they walked into class.
They quickly realized that they had to be quiet in class,
Which was so hard for Tucker and so hard for Cherry.
Heidi,
And Leo,
And Vea.
Were very good students.
They didn't have a problem at all.
In fact,
Heidi was so enthralled in the lesson that she forgot everyone else was there.
She was just staring at the teacher.
Listening.
To geography.
Geography.
Talking about places.
Stuff like that in the world.
Was a particular favourite of Heidi's.
It wasn't a particular favorite of anybody else's.
Cherry was practically squirming in her seat the whole time,
But then the bell went for the recess and she was so relieved.
She grabbed hold of her friend's hand and said,
Let's go,
Let's go rule the school!
They went out into recess and just started to mingle.
And talk to some kids and hang out.
They could tell that their friend was a little bit apprehensive.
But then,
At one point,
She was happily,
Enthusiastically even,
Talking to a group of girls.
Tucker went over to listen.
She was telling them about one of her toenails that was all messed up and weird and took her.
Was like.
Okay,
We need to intercept.
Interception,
Interception.
Tooker pulled his friend aside and said,
What are you doing talking about your strange toenail?
She laughed and said,
I don't know.
I was so nervous.
I started to tell them all sorts of stuff.
Took us a day?
No,
It's understandable,
And I love your strange toenail.
Bye!
You don't go telling everybody things like that.
Not until they're your besties.
I love your strange toenail.
I love your quirky sense of humour.
I love that you bite your lip when you're thinking hard.
I love all those things because I know you and we love each other and you're my friend.
But when you meet people at first,
You just let them know the basic things about you.
But then,
When you get to know them more,
Then you can tell them all your deepest,
Darkest feelings and secrets.
You know,
Sometimes you're limp when you're tired.
She laughed and said,
I do not.
Took a laugh and said,
I know exactly,
But you know what I mean,
Don't you?
You know what I mean.
Keep it to yourself,
A lot of it.
Don't be telling everyone your deepest,
Darkest secrets,
Because then before you know it,
Your deepest,
Darkest secrets or your deepest,
Darkest thoughts will be all over the school.
And everyone will know that you have a fantastic toenail.
She laughed.
Oh,
I get it.
I get it.
So when I'm uncomfortable and I don't quite know what to say,
Maybe just be quiet and listen to the other friends.
Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss Okay,
Well also if I feel uncomfortable and I'm expected to say something then maybe I should just do what?
Then what?
Then what do I do?
Tucker said,
You take a breath.
You take a breath and you think to yourself.
I'm awesome.
I have friends and I have people that love me for who I am.
Say it.
She said.
I'm awesome and I have friends and people that love me for who I am.
Remember.
There's only one you,
And you are a treasure.
See?
She said,
Remember there's only one me.
And I am a treasure.
Now.
Now.
Remember that you are a very special person and you're awesome,
But remember this.
You're not going to be for everybody.
Say it.
She said.
I'm awesome and I'm a special person,
But I'm not going to be for everybody.
Then she looked at Leo and took her,
Because Leo had joined them now,
And she said to Leo,
How do you feel about not being for everybody?
Leo said.
That's fine with me.
Because if I think about it,
I don't particularly like everybody.
So,
There's some people that's not necessarily going to like me.
And that's okay.
I like me.
I like all my quirks.
I like all the fun things about me,
All the silly things about me,
All the not so great things about me.
I like me,
Leo said.
Do you like you?
She thought about it for a minute.
And she did that thing where she kind of pulled a funny face and bitter lip while she was thinking.
And Tucker said,
There it is.
That's my special,
Special friend right there.
And then she said,
Yes,
I do like me.
But I feel very stressed right now.
I'm very overwhelmed.
Like I'm making mistakes all the time.
Like I'm saying the wrong thing all the time.
Or I don't even know when I'm saying the wrong thing.
I'm stressed.
I don't know what to do.
I'm very sweaty.
And I would really like to just be alone and be in my own space so I can process this.
Cherry came over.
OMG,
I just met the funniest,
Funniest boy,
Right?
He said he could skateboard,
But when I was asking him about all the different moves,
He didn't know any of them,
And I was like.
.
.
Imposter!
And then Cherry recognized that her friend looked a little bit stressed.
A little bit.
Sweaty,
A little bit red in the cheeks and flushed and overwhelmed.
She sat down next to her and she said,
OMG!
You know why.
This is a little bit overwhelming.
Cherry.
Wanted her friend to not feel alone.
I'm a little bit stressed right now.
I don't know how to handle all of these new people.
I don't know what to say.
I don't know what to do.
I keep making a mess of myself.
I told one person over there that sometimes I pee myself when I laugh.
A friend cracked out laughing.
Cherry laugh.
Tooka said,
Cherry,
You're so funny.
Leo laughed at Cherry too because Cherry is funny.
But then I thought to myself,
You know what?
You know why?
Don't really matter,
Does it?
Because.
.
.
Hello Awesome!
I'm so cool I can make 10 million friends in a day.
I can be myself.
And it's okay.
Because not everybody's gonna like me.
I get told all the time that I'm too loud.
Cherry's too confident.
Cherry thinks she's awesome and she loves self and she's too big-headed.
Cherry!
You know Cherry,
She gets on my nerves because she's always so loud and she interrupts everybody.
I hear those things all the time.
But you know what I think?
I think.
That's okay.
Cos I'm not for everybody.
And there's people that like me being funny and they like me being loud and they actually get inspired by how confident I am.
They get inspired by my personality and the way that I express myself in the world.
And that is nice.
Believe in that!
Doesn't matter.
She squeezed her friend's hand even tighter.
But sometimes people like you and then sometimes they don't.
And you can't rely on that to like yourself.
Remember to like yourself.
No matter what.
So yeah,
You're gonna make some mistakes.
Yeah,
Maybe you're gonna get overwhelmed.
Yeah,
Maybe some days you don't want to deal with people and you want to be alone.
Yeah,
Some days you're gonna say something to a friend and you're gonna think at the end of the day,
Oh my goodness,
Why did I say that?
I sounded like such a wally.
I do that all the time.
But I don't really mind because I have people that love me.
Heidi loves me.
Fea loves me.
Leo and Tukkala have met.
And the most important out of all of them is me.
And I love me.
So,
My sweet friend,
Get your tush off this bench and go and talk to some new friends.
And if you say something wrong,
It's okay.
And if you don't say anything,
It's okay.
And if you don't even want to try and be around anyone because you're feeling like you're having an overwhelmed moment,
That's okay.
It's all okay.
Okay?
Because.
.
.
We all have different days and we all have different moods.
WESH YOU MA- That's how it works.
A friend squeezed Cherry's little paw as if to say,
Thank you.
She stood up,
She brushed down the front of her clothes as if she meant business,
And then she went to go talk to a group of kids that she didn't know.
She felt very nervous,
But also very brave.
And she had a little voice inside of her head that kept saying,
You're awesome.
Just be yourself.
Just be yourself.
They either like you.
Or they don't.
The cats and the dogs had the bestest,
Bestest day at school.
Some parts of it were very painful.
Took her in the taxi on the way home,
Said,
Oh,
I'm so glad I don't have to do that every day.
Oh,
I kept trying to sniff everyone and they were all looking at me as if I was some strange dog.
Way too many smells,
Way too many sniffs,
Way too many smelly feet.
Too many to choose from!
That made his friend giggle even more.
She ended up having an overwhelming fun day.
That combination was quite interesting.
She managed it.
But it would get better.
Every day would get better.
Eventually,
She would meet friends that stick around,
That become close.
And eventually should know.
Who she likes and who she doesn't.
And that will make it a lot easier.
But the whole time.
Just like you.
Just like her.
You need to remember.
That you're very,
Very special.
And not everyone is going to like you.
And that is okay.
The end.
