My heart sinks as I wake up and see this morning's news.

My chest tightens and I feel fear warm in my stomach as I think about our future.

Where are we headed?

What has happened to my dreams and goals?

My future feels uncertain.

The stock market crashing,

Global warming,

And a major pandemic spreading around the globe.

May this meditation help guide you to a place of peace.

A solid rock in the midst of a great storm.

The We will begin with a period of mindful breathing.

For the rest of this meditation,

I will be speaking directly from the self,

Using I statements.

This will be the best way for you to connect with the material.

I sit in a way that awareness fills my body.

My back is straight.

My gaze is pointed slightly down.

I shrug my shoulders and release any tension down to the floor.

I find a spot for my eyes to focus on,

Softly.

I bring my attention to the sensation of breathing.

What is there?

What sensations do I notice when I breathe?

My stomach slightly expands outwards,

And a cool sensation touches my nostrils.

As I exhale,

I feel a warm breeze on my nostrils.

I take a couple of minutes to just become aware of my breath.

I take a couple of minutes to just become aware of my breath.

I notice my mind is drifted away from this moment.

I bring my attention back to what's happening right now.

The sensations of breathing.

I am ready to make my vows to be a warrior today,

To be a beacon of love,

Light,

And peace in these very uncertain times.

Desire to control.

I am becoming aware of my deep-seated desire to control everything that happens to me.

I see that pattern,

That unrealistic desire,

And feel its energy when it arises.

I am patient with fear when it arises in me,

Holding it in the arms of my awareness.

I let fear be without letting it take root in my psyche or my decisions.

Right now,

I am letting go of the futile desire to control everything that happens to me.

I adorn my mind and spirit with the great robe of mindfulness.

Even with all the concerning things going on right now,

I notice the continuous pressing on of nature all around me.

The wind waving through the green leaves,

The squirrels finding and hiding nuts.

I am now aware of this immensely powerful force of nature within myself.

When I breathe and let go,

This force guides me,

Offering solutions I never knew were available,

Cleansing and healing all limited beliefs within myself.

Right now,

I am finding a deep well of peace available to me at any time.

Regardless of any external factor,

I am able to connect to this deep feeling of well-being.

Every day,

I bring with me,

Wherever I go,

This state of mindfulness.

I return to the sensation of breathing and deep peace.

Using Hardship for Growth I welcome the unavoidable trials of life.

I use these trials for personal growth and a greater understanding of myself.

I know that through trials I grow,

I welcome and make the most of the inevitable trials of my life.

Today,

I use the reality of my own mortality to inform the quality of my living right now.

In every situation,

I always do my best and make the most out of what I have.

Love in Action Today,

I see the beauty and uniqueness of love.

I look for opportunities to love those around me through willful action.

I feel the fear and suffering within myself.

I recognize that others are feeling these same feelings.

Others are also suffering.

I look for ways to add value to the world,

Using my unique gifts to lighten the burden of others.

May you be joyful,

May you be peaceful,

And may you be free from suffering.

I hope today is a good day for you.

Thanks for listening.

Short and sweet. The start is slightly shocking and a bit of a downer but I understand its intent. Exactly what I needed this morning.

Incredibly helpful and grounding. I have listened to this meditation repeatedly in the past few days and it has helped me to cope with work related burnout and uncertainty with the current political events. Your words speak to me in a deeply resonant and relatable way. A million thanks for the gift. ๐Ÿ™

What a refreshing and comforting piece this was. I enjoyed the use of "I statements" as I haven't experienced many meditations of this style in my regular practice. Your use of imagery was both soothing and empowering; something I didn't know that I needed until I heard it. Thank you. On a side note, I wanted to ask if you happen to be related to a guitar player with the same last name? Light love and equanimity to you... and also patience & boundless creativity in this unprecedented time we find ourselves in.
