Welcome to a book from your future self,

A guided visualisation meditation with me Claire Cockle.

So firstly I'd like you to find a comfortable position,

Whether that be sitting with your back straight,

Your feet grounded on the floor,

Your hands resting in your lap or on top of your thighs,

Or perhaps you want to lie down.

However feels most comfortable for your meditation practice today.

Whenever you're ready I want you to close your eyes and just take a moment to notice how your body feels today.

Don't try to fix anything,

Just notice how it feels.

Notice how your breathing feels.

Notice the rise and fall of your chest and tummy as you breathe in and breathe out.

And start to let your body feel deeply relaxed.

Any tensions you have are slipping away.

Your muscles are melting,

Take a few deep breaths,

Breathing in right to the very top,

Hold and breathe out.

And again breathing in right to the very top,

Hold that breath and breathe out.

And just repeat this for a couple more breaths.

And again your last breath,

Feel your lungs as much as you can,

Taking that nice deep breath in,

Hold and breathe out.

Now imagine you're walking down a clear,

Open path.

Either side it is green,

Full of colour,

It's peaceful and quiet.

You can stroll at a relaxed pace without a care in the world.

The breeze gently flows through your hair.

The weather is comfortable and the sky is blue with soft white clouds slowly drifting past.

You stop to take a seat on a bench and just gaze at the clouds,

The different shapes,

Some softer and lighter than others.

Just watch them drift past.

You close your eyes and can feel the brightness of the sun on your eyelids.

Take in this bright light and enjoy it.

Appreciate the bright light throughout your whole body.

Let it light you up inside.

Feel the glow and the warmth from this bright light.

The light begins to gradually fade from your eyes and you begin to notice the nature around you and the gentle rustle from the soothing breeze.

You take your gaze around and notice a book laying just beside you.

You pick up this book,

Notice how it feels,

How it looks,

Its size,

Colour,

How heavy it feels.

On the front there is a name,

It's your name from birth.

You trace your finger over the name.

You realise that this is a book of you written from your future self.

You gently open the book and start reading.

Read all of the information from your future self.

Observe the feeling you get from your future self through this book.

How do they feel?

What do they want to share with you?

What positive future experiences do they want you to know?

Take a moment to absorb this information.

There's a photo in the back of your future self.

How do you look?

How do you look?

Breathe in calm and reassurance as you gently close the book.

Give thanks and gratitude to your future self for this experience and for sharing their wisdom and knowledge.

Feel the strength and peace from them.

Take a deep breath in.

Take a deep breath in and out.

And as you take your eyes back to the scenery around you on this bench,

Enjoy it for a moment longer.

As you appreciate the scenery from your bench,

Remember the positive words in the book from your future self.

Take another deep breath in and out.

And repeat that again as you slowly become more aware of the present moment.

More aware of your surroundings.

Gradually move fingers and toes as you awaken your mind and your body.

Stretch if you need to.

And whenever you're ready,

Open your eyes.

I totally love this one! I’ve never thought of what I would write in the future about my life; not only now but even as it extends further. It gives me great appreciation for what I’ve been doing and also great hope for the future.

Perfect!! Thank you for a beautiful start to my day- and oddly synchronistic because I’m off to write my book! ... literally about my experiences that changed everything for me & how I saw the world, forever. These January days are anniversaries of multiple unrelated awful, heartbreaking events- weird how it always happened mid-late January, Even events that were totally unrelated. For years, almost ( but not quite) consecutively. This year, January 16 will be an emotional time also- a culmination of sorts, I don’t want to jinx anything but... I believe and hope it will bring the discharge of my 3 years mandatory parole requirement, and I can finally shed the oppressive chains of the state that have been literally weighing on me for many years. I’ve been captive for too many cold years. I’m grateful to still have the urge to write and not just be completely deflated.. sucked dry of any hope or inspiration- though they tried their best. The state of California, the criminal justice system, California Dept of corrections and its employees took the half of my 20s and I’m closer to 35 then 30 now. My youth & innocence. Self confidence and sense of safety or trust in institutions or authority. My ambition has been replaced with fear of very Real consequences. All they left in tact are the heroin addiction that was started & facilitated under their watch, and a crumpled mess of anger, bitterness, and a PhD in criminology. Let’s not forget the PTSD that continues whenever I am touched or someone gets too Closs on the bus or at the store. I look T people and think “I know you did something... something awful.... what is it?” And I honestly believe that... or I did, but time out and some adjustments to the free world have helped. But I was so ambitious when I went in. I was on fire and a full life force to be reckoned with and I’m still in shock at where I’ve landed.... like I’m waking up from a crazy fucking dream to realize wtf has been going on for the last 9 years or whatever. Left with nothing but addictions & severe ptsd. Long term battles to keep on waging. I can feel myself approaching freedom. It reminds me of a Nelson Mandela quote where he says he takes moment (upon release) when he reaches a vista & stops to look around- see where he has come from, acknowledge what he has just been through, and then turn to look at the expanse he is headed toward. But he can not rest too long, because with great freedom comes great responsibility. And there is much too accomplish. I hope my paraphrasing is accurate. He’s (and many authors) have been figure of hope & strength through these dark nights & I have nothing but respect for the man, and his amazing writing. When I think of their (Mandela, Viktor Frankl) ordeals, my perspective recalibrated, and I just hope to be worthy of my suffering. At this point writing for me is necessary to quell the screaming in my body. It’s more urgent than eating and I watch the sun & moon chase each other so quickly as I stay absorbed, even obsessed, with this. The meditations guidance to a future self & clear visualization of the book, my future self, and I even was blessed with quick visits from my guardian angel/past life entity that I haven’t seen or sensed in a long time 😃 came into my meditation to prompt me further along this journey. That was really beautiful & cool. Thank you so, so much sister. Fucking awesome. 👍
