A talk and meditation on miracles. I talk about miracles that happened in my life and the Albert Einstein quote, "Do You Believe in Miracles? Well, you should. In fact, life is nothing but a big miracle. There are so many things that are beyond our understanding. There are two ways to live; you can live as if nothing is a miracle: you can live as if everything is a miracle."

Aloha,

I'm Reverend Cindy Palos,

And today I want to talk about miracles.

I think probably the quote that's known about miracles from Albert Einstein is one of the ones that we refer to quite often.

Of course,

Albert Einstein was an amazing man,

But most people know his quote about miracles as saying,

There are two ways to live life.

You can live as if nothing is a miracle.

You can live as if everything is a miracle.

Now there really was more to the quote than that one.

The actual whole quote is,

Do you believe in miracles?

Well,

You should.

In fact,

Life itself is a big miracle.

There are so many things that are beyond our understanding.

There are two ways to live life.

You can live life as if nothing is a miracle,

Or you can live as if everything is a miracle.

Now,

If you talk to many wise people who have studied the universe,

The cosmos,

Physicists,

And doctors,

You'll find that people who have really looked into the far reaches of the cosmos,

And also who have looked into the inner workings of our body,

Have realized this very essence that life is a miracle.

In fact,

Every single breath of life is a miracle.

The fact that we're alive at all is a miracle.

And when we look at life that way,

Which I prefer to look at it as,

We have a sense of wonder.

That sense of wonder that is so beautiful,

Kind of the beginner's mind that Suzuki Roshi talked about.

The mind you see as a child looks at something for the first time in such wonder.

Now we become used to things and we don't look at these little things as wonder.

They're wondrous many times.

And so sometimes we want bigger miracles,

More and more miracles.

I've had many miracles in my life.

I'll just mention three that have happened to me.

One was I was working,

Starting a station,

That was back in Santa Rosa.

And I'd been there for about six months,

And I'd had this very intense dream.

There's all kinds of levels of dreams.

But this is one of those dreams that I remember still vividly to this very day.

It was one of those dreams that made a deep,

Deep impression.

And the dream was that I was in an airport waiting room,

And it was packed.

And I asked someone near me,

What are we doing here?

And they said,

Oh,

We've died and we're waiting to see where we're going to be going to go to that podium over there and look.

And there was this podium with this huge book on it.

And as I looked at it,

I saw it was like images,

Movies of places I could have been in my life.

And I saw some of those places,

And then I saw where I was living at that time in Forestville by the Russian River.

And I decided I wanted to go back there where I was living.

And as I did,

I woke up and realized I had chosen to be alive,

And I felt this amazing joy.

And then a week later,

I was going out for a horseback ride,

And I had many symbols that happened along the way,

Including seeing a rattlesnake coiled up on the gate I had to open to get out riding and other things.

And then I got thrown by my horse,

And I was literally on the ground.

But I tried to stand up and almost passed out.

And I had to crawl back holding the stirrup of my horse's saddle,

Made it to the stable barely about a mile and a half,

And got taken immediately to the hospital.

Where they took me to the emergency room,

I had almost passed out.

There was this fluid coming from my lungs.

My ribs had punctured my lung.

And they couldn't stop it.

They had made me to the hospital for days.

They couldn't figure out why they couldn't stop it.

And after a week,

They decided to operate.

And they broke open my ribs and found out that half my right lung right there had a tumor in it,

The exact spot where my rib had punctured my lung.

And they took the tumor out,

And I got healed.

And literally,

My horse,

By throwing me,

Saved my life,

Because I was not even aware that I had a tumor in my lung.

So that was a very,

Very wonderful second chance in life.

I had another miracle occur with a friend of mine,

A partner of mine,

Known for 45 years.

We'd gone on a walk.

And I came back and saw him.

As I had changed my clothes,

I came down and saw his face.

And his face,

Obviously,

He'd had a stroke.

His eye was kind of off kilter.

His mouth was drooping on one side.

He couldn't talk right.

He came out all muffled.

It was all the signs you hear about of a stroke.

And of course,

You know you're supposed to act quickly.

So I had said,

You had a stroke.

We have to go to the hospital.

And he,

Oh,

No,

No,

No.

I said,

You know,

You had a stroke.

Trust me.

We have to go to the hospital.

Went to the emergency room and started praying.

I pray to Mother Mary,

Because I have a very close relationship and love Mother Mary.

And I started praying.

And the doctors did all the things they do and had him attached to all the machines and the beeping and all that stuff in the emergency room.

Now,

After an hour of praying,

All of a sudden,

He had absolutely nothing wrong with him at all.

His mouth returned to normal.

His speech returned to normal.

His everything was back to normal.

I mean,

You literally couldn't tell anything had happened.

Of course,

The doctor said,

This is just a prelude to a bigger stroke.

And we have to admit him.

And I said,

No,

I don't think so.

I think that it's,

You have no proof.

I said,

Well,

I believe in prayer.

And I believe in miracles.

And I think this really is a miracle.

Of course,

They laughed.

And one doctor said,

You know,

You'll be sorry when he wakes up tomorrow and he's dead.

But he didn't go in the hospital.

And he was absolutely fine after that.

And he had no recurrence.

I bought a rose bush.

And I called the rose bush Mary in gratitude.

It was just a small rose bush,

About a foot and a half high.

And now,

This happened about 3 and 1 half years ago.

And I have seen the amazing blossoms from this rose bush.

I'm not good with flowers at all.

I'd never actually had a rose bush before.

And this rose bush puts out constant roses that are so beautiful.

I mean,

Absolutely gorgeous.

And there's been more miracles.

I don't want to take all this time to talk about it,

Because I want to be able to have some affirmations of prayer and a meditation on miracles.

Because I think if we put our focus on the wonder of life,

If we put our focus on the fact that life is a miracle,

Then we start to have more hope.

And not all of our prayers can be answered.

But really,

I totally believe that many,

Many,

Many are.

And many,

Many miracles happen.

And we have to leave our mind and our hearts and our self open to the miracle of life.

So please remember to believe in miracles.

And an affirmation here on that is,

I believe in miracles.

And I feel all the good that God brings.

When I'm in the presence of that essence of what creates a miracle,

I feel myself open to the love that is present in my life.

Every day in every way,

I give thanks for the miracle of life.

I hold a loving space in my heart.

And that loving space leaves me open to believe in miracles.

Thank you,

God.

And so it is.

And we'll do a prayer and a meditation on miracles.

And I just ask you to hold that energy of wonder open in your heart as we go into this prayer now.

Lord,

Help me to feel the essence of the miracle of life.

For in your very essence is the presence pulsing in every single moment of life.

This energy that is God's prayer of light alive in us right now.

The harmony of the universe carries this living hymn to God's great grace.

The blessing of being alive right here and now in this very moment in time and space.

And sometimes,

Lord,

I pretend not to see the unlimited gift of life's possibilities.

So I do not have to feel how great can be this life I lead.

And as I turn inside,

I hear the whispers of the Lord say,

For a few seconds,

Stop.

And take the time to believe in your soul of souls that you are worthy to receive the blessing of miracles of love divine.

And with every breath you take,

You can choose to be awake and be aware of this love in life as a miracle reflected in the mirror of God's light.

Now let's take some deep breaths,

Breathing in deeply.

Just breathe in that light,

That love.

Breathing in and holding and letting that light and love fill every single part of your body.

Let it transform the energy there within you,

Breathing in the miracle of that breath and holding for a couple of seconds and let that healing energy of that miracle fill your entire mind with light.

Fill your creative throat center with the creative process,

The creative force that comes from the one source.

Breathe in that miracle of light and let it come to the love there deep in your heart,

Clearing anything that might be closed,

That might be dark,

And allowing yourself to feel your heart expanding with the miracle of love deeper and deeper until your heart is aligned with the heart of God.

Breathe in that heart.

Breathe in that heartbeat behind the heart and go deeper and deeper until you feel the love that is from the one source of all life.

Let it fill your mind,

Your body.

Let it move on down through all of your body,

Healing anything that needs to be healed,

Releasing any of the blocks of anger and fear that might be present.

And let yourself be bathed in this miracle of being alive in this moment.

Take a moment to go to your soul.

Feel the wonder.

Feel the light of being alive.

You are part of this one great light,

The presence of the Holy Spirit that holds you in such a loving space that it awakens you past the illusion,

Past the darkness of the earthly place to see the beauty of light that surrounds you and that amazing grace that comes with miracles and blessings that is here right now to renew your belief,

To restore you,

To rekindle that flame,

That spark within your heart.

Can you see the way this love transforms you and brings you the miracles you need to help you fulfill your role and your destiny?

Feel the smile and the grace,

The purity of that heavenly,

Heavenly glow.

And let it envelop all of your aura,

All of your soul,

All of who you are.

And allow yourself right now to love yourself enough to forgive any mistakes you've made.

Feel the depths of forgiveness,

Of compassion,

And the power that is given in your life with the love that it takes.

Let that grace,

That amazing grace,

Embrace you and hold you tight.

And feel the blessings of that heavenly light that heals you and makes all things right.

Breathe it in and find a way to believe that you can have miracles happening constantly.

You can be living with the blessings of the love that is present always.

You can be that miracle transformed with your life.

You can be a living prayer.

Breathe that possibility of endless wonder in.

Believe in the miracle that you are.

And say,

Thank you,

God,

For this holy moment that lives forever inside my soul.

And I'll close today with the Aramaic version of the Lord's Prayer.
