This track contains drumming and singing. This song is representative of families calling their children home and then the children responding. It can be a very emotional song for many families as thousands of children did not get to come home from the Indian Residential Schools in so-called Canada. I would like to acknowledge Elder Beatrice Twance-Hynes from Biigtigong First Nation in Ontario for gifting us with the teachings of making hand drums and singing songs (including a songbook). Miigwech Beatrice. I am grateful for the opportunity to share this song with you. We usually begin with a smudge and prayer to the Creator. We also acknowledge the seven directions on our drum. Miigwech (thank you).
