Welcome to the shared space.
Today I won't ask you to close your eyes.
I won't ask you to become still.
Instead.
Let's go for a walk.
Take only what you need.
Keep it simple.
Worry less about the destination.
Let me guide you.
As we walk.
Let me tell you about something that has been on my mind.
A few days ago,
I was walking down the street with a friend.
It was a place I had been before,
All felt very familiar.
However,
Halfway through he.
.
.
Looked around and said,
It feels like we're walking through another time.
So I took a few seconds to look around.
And began to see the old buildings.
The worn,
Detailed light post thought had beautiful spirals around its edges.
The balconies,
That.
Seemed to have been built by hands with a little more patience.
And this strange sensation that.
.
.
Time had been sitting at the doorway to my right.
Watching us move faster and faster through life.
And that moment.
Every detail began to feel less like decoration and more like an invitation.
That all stayed with me.
Not the street that I had just rediscovered.
But the question of.
Where along the way we stopped leaving room for detail.
In the houses we build.
And the conversations we have.
In the way we move through our days,
I wonder.
How often we walk through this world without ever really entering in relationship with it.
Hmm.
It's nice to be outside,
Isn't it?
Let's slow down for a little.
Not because slower is better,
But.
.
.
Sometimes a different pace.
Creates a different relationship.
As we walk.
Notice your steps.
The way your foot meets the ground.
One,
Then the other.
Notice the weight shifting slightly from side to side and your breath deep and long as it goes in and out.
And out.
Find a rhythm that meets your stride.
As you cross this earth.
As it meets you too.
Slowly.
Let your eyes rest on something.
It doesn't have to be extraordinary.
Just stop there.
Notice its color.
Its texture.
Its shape.
How the light rests on it.
How the shadows come to play.
Take a small step to the side.
See you from a new angle.
Does it change?
What lives beside it.
Does something frame it?
Support it.
Completed.
Does it depend on something else to become what it is?
And difficult.
What story would it tell?
Let's keep on walking.
And remember.
Take a deep breath in.
And let it out.
Is there something that you can smell?
A flower,
The earth.
The wind.
Someone making food or coffee.
What does it smell like?
And is it familiar?
Now,
What about the wind?
Hasn't found you yet.
Or maybe the sun hasn't touched your skin.
Maybe the moonlight?
How do you receive that?
How does it feel?
Be in contact with it.
Well,
Let's keep walking.
But I'll be quiet for a moment,
Just keeping you company.
Feel free to stop whenever you desire to linger with.
Whatever you come to admire.
And notice.
What begins to feel different.
And this world around you.
Wait,
I see that too.
Yes,
What you're looking at,
I have a question.
If it had been there waiting for you all day.
Would you walk past it in the same way?
Could you move a little closer?
Can you touch it?
Run your fingers across its surface and feel whether it gives way or holds its shape.
How smooth,
How what?
How rough it is.
Can you pick it up?
Maybe feel its weight,
And if not.
.
.
Can you simply admire its size?
Well,
When you're ready.
Find somewhere to sit.
Or Perhaps keep on walking,
If it feels nice.
Whatever you choose.
Let's take a deep breath in and out.
How does it feel to spend some time in this world?
Maybe going for a walk like this is an act of resistance.
Against becoming so efficient that nothing gets the chance to affect us anymore.
There is a certain kind of sensitivity that is worth protecting.
To still be moved by detail,
By a person,
By the wind,
By something you were not looking for.
But that crossed your path.
I hope this walk reminds you to keep rescuing your relationship with this world.
Let yourself be interrupted.
By detail,
By beauty,
By another person,
By someone else's conversation.
Stay opening up for something to reach you.
Before everything becomes background,
Including us.
And the next time,
The world begins to feel a little like background.
Go for a walk.
Let something interrupt you.
Stay with it a little longer than you normally would.
Perhaps the world doesn't need more of our attention.
Maybe we.
.
.
Are the ones who need a little bit more of this world too.
