I want to offer you a very simple question,
But before I give it to you,
I want to say something that I think is really important about how I want you to answer this question.
I'm not asking you to think your way to an answer.
I know we are so used to doing that.
So I don't want you to just sit there and try and work it out.
Because,
Let's be honest,
That'll just be another thing to do.
I just want you to take the question into your day with you.
Hold it lightly.
Be curious.
And see what you notice from your own experience.
Because this question may show you something that you had never considered with your intellect.
So the question is.
What if this thought doesn't need anything from you?
So what if this thought doesn't need anything from you?
Because thoughts appear all day long.
Things like,
I need to remember that.
Why did she say that?
What if this happens?
I really need to sort that out.
And often we don't even notice the moment we go from it simply being a thought that pops in our head to being completely absorbed in what it's saying.
It can quite often feel important,
Something we need to work out,
Something we need to solve,
Or something that needs our attention.
But does it?
What if.
.
.
Thought appearing and that thought requiring something from you are two completely different things.
And again.
I don't want you to turn this into,
Right,
Next time I have a thought I mustn't engage with it.
Because that's something else to do.
I'm not about that.
And that's not what I'm pointing to.
There's nothing to practice here.
Instead,
Just take the question with you.
And maybe at some point today,
You'll suddenly notice you've been replaying a conversation in your head.
Maybe you'll be lying in bed and your mind starts presenting you with something about the next day.
Or maybe you'll find yourself trying to solve something that hasn't even happened yet.
My mind did this all the time.
And perhaps.
.
.
Somewhere in that,
The question will be very,
Very clear to you,
But it comes from a deeper place than intellect.
So,
What if this thought doesn't need anything from me?
And leave it there,
No answer required,
Just lots of curiosity,
Lots of noticing,
And just see what lands.
