Hey there,
I am Nicole Batiste and this is your Inner Mastery Minute.
Today,
We're going to talk about anger and how you can use the CROWNED framework and GoodNow to help you navigate any angry moments.
Before we dive into what to do when you find yourself feeling a bit angry,
I just want to talk about anger in general real quick because it tends to get a bad rep.
Anger really is just an energy that helps to activate the desire to want to do something about a situation.
And when used responsibly and consciously,
It can actually create change that can benefit the whole.
When not used consciously,
It can create more destruction.
By cultivating inner mastery.
Creating more self-awareness.
This allows you to more consciously choose how you're going to respond to a situation that invoke some anger within you.
So what do you do when you're angry?
When we find ourselves angry or there's a self-awareness that we're feeling some extra heat inside.
I know this may sound cliche,
But it's a little bit different than what you may be accustomed to.
So the first thing you will want to do is you want to pause.
And then you want to take a deep breath in.
Or even a small breath.
It doesn't have to be super deep.
And then you exhale slowly saying,
Good.
Good is a way of allowing or reminding yourself that this moment exists.
So you're acknowledging that this moment is what it is in this time.
And now just really brings you back.
Right here to this present moment.
Respond to something.
Anger position angry position means you are either projecting thinking ahead what could whatever or you're thinking about what could have or what did You have to get to this now moment before,
Well you don't have to because I'm not the boss of you.
It is more beneficial to get to this now moment before you start to address what kind of lit you up inside.
And it's the best place to be in order to crown this situation.
So crown,
Which helps cultivate inner mastery.
Let's walk through that framework.
The C in crown stands for conscious choice.
So when you're angry,
And of course with more practice,
You can make a more conscious choice in how you respond to something that creates that heat within you.
You allow yourself some space that may mean that you step away for a minute as you bring yourself to a more neutral place,
That may mean you decide that this,
Whatever it is,
Doesn't even need to be addressed in any way because silence is also a very powerful message.
Not responding at all also sends a very powerful message.
But of course,
If you do see or anticipate that there needs to be a conversation there,
It is definitely best to consciously choose to step away until you are in a new a more neutral position mentally and emotionally.
And in so doing,
You are taking responsibility.
You recognize that you have a responsibility in the direction that this conversation could go if there is one that needs to be had.
Making a conscious choice,
Choosing to be responsible for how you approach or address the situation is what can help one cultivate more inner mastery but also ensure that this situation does not escalate.
When you do that too,
You are owning your energy.
So that's what the O stands for in crown.
When you own your energy,
You recognize that outside external things do not have to dictate how you are spending your energy.
So with conscious choice,
Taking responsibility,
You can own your energy.
You don't have to give your power away to something that is outside of you.
The more you do that,
The more not only do you cultivate inner mastery,
But you recognize that.
My time,
My energy is worth something.
Worth without permission is the WN crown.
My time,
My energy,
My insight is worth something and I don't need permission to recognize that worth.
And so when you start to really understand your value and the worth that you have,
That you don't need permission to recognize,
Then you will less likely engage in things that drain your energy.
You continue to own it.
And the more you do that,
The more you stop abandoning yourself.
So that's what the N stands for in CROWN,
No more self abandonment.
A lot of times when we get angry.
It is because we are abandoning ourselves.
We are doing something because we feel obligated to,
Like we owe someone something.
We're doing something because.
.
.
We want to keep the peace,
But are we doing something?
Because we actually want to.
When we're doing something because we feel like there's some reason outside of our absolute love and desire to do it,
We tend to get angry.
And what also happens is we think we're angry at that person or that situation.
But what we're really mad about is that we keep allowing ourselves to be controlled by something outside of us.
Inner mastery does not allow that.
Or if it's.
If you do do something out of obligation,
You consciously choose to do that.
It's not something like,
Driving you outside of your awareness.
So that is what crown is.
Take a pause when you find yourself getting heated.
Inhale.
Exhale.
Good.
Now and then go through the crown framework.
It's like asking yourself.
What about this situation kind of heated me?
What lit me up about that?
You may notice that it's something within you that you did not express.
You didn't enact your boundaries.
It could be.
It could be.
It could be a value that was compromised,
But understanding what kind of got you heated is important.
So that way you know what the next best step is to be.
That lets you,
That informs you as to What is it that I actually want from this situation?
What do I want to do?
So that is the goal.
As you find yourself getting heated,
Find yourself angry,
Take a moment,
Take a pause,
And start to get curious.
Rather than blaming a situation or a person,
Get curious.
What about that really got under my skin?
Because a lot of times it's not what we think it is.
I hope that was helpful.
This has been your Inner Mastery Minute,
Although it's been longer than a minute,
But I hope that this gives you some context,
Gives you an opportunity to really get to know yourself more and move forward from there.
