This is a three-part track. This introduction invites us to consider how stories inform our personal narratives and how mindfulness practices can shift our perspective, even with a familiar story, to offer new ways of being in the world and more opportunities to be the person we want to be and become.

Greetings,

Beautiful people.

This recording is not as much a meditation as it is a story.

It's a story that I've been working with in the past couple of women's retreats I've been leading,

Where we've really been looking at the power of narrative.

The ways in which there are narratives that we receive externally,

And narratives that we generate internally.

Narratives that really can shape who we are,

Our sense of self,

And how we walk through the world.

And the ways in which these narratives may serve us,

Or may no longer serve us.

When we begin to consider the power of story and the narratives they carry,

We begin to see,

As Byron Katie says,

Eventually,

Everything outside of you is a reflection of your own thinking.

You are the storyteller,

The projector of all stories.

And the world is a projected image of your thoughts.

And so as we begin to look at the stories that we've heard over time,

And begin to work with them,

Beginning to shift perspective on the stories,

Begin to change a little bit the context,

We begin to see that this shift in perspective also has the opportunity to facilitate greater optimism.

A shift in perspective on these stories can lead to greater wholeness or liberation.

Not only for ourselves,

But for the world in which we live.

The Dalai Lama talks about changing perspective in this way.

Changing the way we see the world in turn changes the way we feel and the way we act,

Which changes the world itself.

And as the Buddha says,

With our mind,

We create our own world.

A healthy perspective really is the foundation of joy and happiness.

So I'm sharing this story of Persephone,

One told over the ages,

Not changing the characters,

Not even necessarily changing the events,

But changing the perspective,

The context in which these characters walk,

These events occur,

To see what may resonate in terms of our own journeys to enjoy.
