Welcome,
I'm Angela,
And I'm grateful you're meditating with me today.
Find a comfortable posture,
Alert yet relaxed,
And begin to soften your gaze or close your eyes if it feels safe.
We'll establish a breathing pattern for this practice now.
On your next inhale,
Breathe in through your nose,
Slowing your inhalation,
And making it nice and deep.
And with the exhale,
Breathe out slowly through gently pursed lips.
There's no need to force this breath.
We want to keep them slow and gentle.
You're here because something feels unfair,
Unanswered,
Or overwhelming.
You counted on something from God,
Allah,
Spirit,
The Universe?
And now that higher power has let you down.
Feeling anger is a normal human response when you feel hurt or disappointed or scared in a relationship.
Even when the relationship is with your higher power.
As you continue with this gentle breathing pattern we've established.
See if you can notice where in your body you have been holding onto that experience.
What does it feel like?
Is it heat?
Tightness,
Pressure.
This is anger.
This is injustice.
This is confusion.
You don't have to agree with it.
Only bear witness to it.
Now imagine the anger as a small ember or a candle cupped in your hands.
Invite your breath to begin creating sacred space around that ember.
Not extinguishing.
Merely cooling it.
Breathing in.
I acknowledge my anger.
Breathing out gently through pursed lips,
I am working with my anger.
Continue with a few more rounds of breath like this.
Acknowledging.
And working with your anger.
We are making space here for clarity and eventually release,
Not suppression.
If your higher power is one with whom you have a personal relationship,
Than conflict.
Is a natural part.
You can grow spiritually through it by addressing your anger with curiosity.
What is my anger trying to protect?
What expectation feels unmet?
Perhaps your higher power can hold this anger with you.
Or even for you.
Giving you a moment of relief.
So you can rest from its heavy burden.
Now,
Continue sending your breath.
As a gentle,
Compassionate breeze.
Toward that place where you found the anger abiding inside you.
Only now,
Imagine the warmth of your breath comforting you.
Easing any lingering tension or knots that may need released.
If it feels safe and is part of your practice,
Invite your higher power to help you release the anger.
Just for today.
Today is enough.
And you can practice again tomorrow.
The anger may not be all gone.
And that's okay.
You made space.
You held it in truth.
You released what was ready to let go.
You diffused the anger of its power over you.
You transformed the anger into a moment of connection with the divine.
May you know the grace of working with all your human emotions in the presence of your higher power.
Thank you for practicing with me.
