Welcome.
My name is Vishali.
Today,
I'm going to introduce you.
To Patanjali's Yoga Sutra 1.
2 where we are given a beautiful definition of yoga.
It says,
Yog Chitvriti Nirodha.
Yog chit vritti nirodha.
Let's gently understand these words.
Chit refers to the mind.
Vritti means the fluctuations or movements of the mind.
The constant stream of thoughts.
And nirodha means to still or quiet these fluctuations.
So the essence of yoga is bringing the mind into a state of stillness and equanimity.
This is known as Smatva Bhavana.
Through the various tools and practices yoga offers,
We gently begin to quiet the constant movement of the mind.
And return to a deeper sense of calm and inner stillness that already lies within.
Namaste.
