What is the purpose of life?
I've often asked myself this very question,
Especially on the days when I was a prisoner,
To people filled with demons too dark to even fathom a definition.
Yet I've contemplated this question even more on the days,
Months,
And years following my escape,
Because at least I had a purpose then.
To remember,
Break free,
And see the truth,
Check,
Check,
And check.
Mission accomplished,
But now what?
Even in the realizing of this reality,
My identity to that purpose starts to uncomfortably peel away.
A part of me desperately wanting to cling on because without this purpose,
Who am I?
There seems to be nothing.
A desolate desert filled with no life.
Not even a flower blooming from a cactus.
Not even a vulture lurking in wait of my death.
And that's when I start to understand.
There's nothing here because that version of me is already dead.
That purpose has already given its life.
And I can't stand here expecting life from something that has already passed.
I see that I came to this world on a double mission.
One,
To do that which I've already completed.
And two,
To unravel the deeper meaning of life.
So what is the purpose of life?
A question that each are entitled to define with a different answer.
But for me,
The most tangible way I can describe it is to say,
Be fully human.
Be fully light.
There's really no one purpose.
Often we feel like we need to have this earth-shattering purpose to make sense of the suffering we've experienced.
And maybe you do have an earth-shattering cosmic purpose.
But what if underneath that,
You were simply here to enjoy life and everything that it has to offer?
Living life fully in a way that reflects your unique truth and essence.
And the funny thing is that when you surrender to the flow of your human journey,
When you slow down to feel the caress of the wind flowing from the mountains,
Or when your heart feels the ripple of vibration as you uncontrollably laugh with your loved ones,
You will see that all of these moments and sensations are what make life magical.
And in that magic,
You will uncover even deeper purposes weaved into your unique incarnation.
And an internal knowing filled with not only one,
But many purposes of this life.
So remember this the next time you ask yourself,
What is the purpose of life?
Maybe you'll be surprised when your soul whispers back instead of a voice dictating a definitive answer.
