Hello,
I'm talking about emotional freedom technique,
EFT or tapping.
Just introducing it.
My name's Sheila and I tap.
I've tapped for,
Gosh,
Over 10 years.
It's a tool,
A very powerful tool that I use every day.
And I don't know where I'd be without tapping.
Perhaps you've tried it.
And maybe just listening to me talking about it for a little while will help you understand it better.
It's a very effective tool to have.
And it's amazingly simple to do.
I just call it tapping just to make it easier throughout this little talk.
Just to say that tapping connects your mind with your body.
You tap with usually just two fingers,
Your first two fingers on various points.
The top of your head,
I'm doing it.
As I explain it to you so you can follow along.
The top of your head,
Your eyebrow.
The side of your eye,
Under the eye.
Under the nose,
On the chin,
The chest bone and under the arm.
And for women,
That's near your bra strap.
And while you're tapping,
You're saying a statement such as,
Even though I,
For example,
Even though I'm feeling anxious,
I honour and accept myself.
Or if you can,
You're saying,
I love and accept myself.
And a typical round of tapping might start at the top of the head.
It doesn't really matter where you start.
If you were doing this yourself,
You can start whatever point means something to you.
Quite often we tap on the chest.
It's quite good at relieving any stressful feelings we might have,
Any anxiety,
Just tapping on that point on the chest.
On the shoulder,
The collarbone.
On your collarbone.
So a typical round starts at the top of the head.
And you might be saying,
Even though I'm anxious,
I honour and accept myself.
Then at the eyebrow point,
Even though I'm anxious,
I honour and accept myself.
And you continue at the side of the eye,
Even though I'm anxious.
Under the eye.
Even though I'm anxious,
I honour and accept myself.
Underneath the nose.
I love and accept myself even though I'm anxious.
Under the chin.
And underneath your lip.
The chest,
Your collarbone,
The side of the body.
Repeating that same phrase each time,
Whatever the challenge is for yourself.
And when you've completed that round,
I like to place my hands over my heart.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
And imagine releasing.
Some of that energy,
That trapped energy,
That anxiety or whatever it might be,
That you've just tapped through,
That you're releasing some of it and that completes one round of tapping.
And something else you can do before you start tapping.
Is think about how much this anxiety or whatever it is,
How much that is affecting you today,
Right now,
How much is that bothering you.
Where not zero would be it's not bothering me at all,
And ten would be it's intensely bothering me,
It's very bothering me.
And you choose any number between zero and ten.
And you remember that number before you start tapping,
Before you do each round of tapping.
And ideally,
You would be hoping that that number would be coming down,
Say your anxiety was at a seven.
Before you start tapping and then it goes down to a five or it keeps going down until hopefully you might get to zero.
And if it goes up,
You just keep tapping.
And releasing it.
Like anything else,
Tapping on your own takes practice.
So it's useful to do.
To do it.
And you know,
Hair.
Or with someone who is trained in tapping,
Like myself,
That is very helpful.
And I think I said,
Or I certainly would say,
That tapping,
You can use it for absolutely anything that is bothering you.
You don't need a specific reason.
Or a specific time to sit down,
And that's the only time in the day that you can tap.
You can tap while at work,
You can do it while you're out and about,
Or if you feel stressed if something happens when you're out and it stresses you.
What I might do is I would be tapping,
If I can,
I could just tap on the shoulder point.
Collarbone point.
I'm not sure why I keep calling it the shoulder because you're not tapping on your shoulder,
You're tapping on your collarbone and I would just tap there and perhaps breathe in and out.
If,
For example,
I were out and about and I didn't have time to do a round of tapping or to watch a video on tapping or to go someone who will help me to release whatever it is that's bothering me,
I would just sit or stand.
You can do it anywhere and just tap on that collarbone point or on your finger point.
Or any of the other points,
The tapping points,
The top of the head or the eyebrow point,
Just tapping.
Don't always need words,
You can just tap and it helps to release.
And you can incorporate it into your daily routine quite easily.
So perhaps in the morning,
If you didn't sleep well,
You might say to yourself,
Even though I didn't sleep well,
I honour and accept myself.
Acknowledging that issue out loud.
Followed by this statement of love or honoring yourself,
It makes the acceptance of it easier.
Accepting something can be difficult,
But once you accept something,
Even by just saying it out loud,
You can begin to change it or to move on.
And that's what I think tapping is so good at.
So I hope that's been helpful to explain these meridian points that make up tapping.
They also use them in acupuncture and acupressure.
And there's lots of research into tapping.
And they're beginning to find the little meridian points that we use in tapping,
They're beginning to find they actually do exist in the body.
That it's not a myth,
It's not just something that someone tells you to do and it works or it doesn't work.
It does have substance behind it.
There are these little meridian tapping points.
For example,
The meridian point under your eye that you tap on is In acupuncture it's the end of the stomach point.
It ends underneath your eye.
And the side of the eyes,
The gallbladder point.
They all relate to acupuncture points.
I hope you find that helpful.
And I'm just wanting to pass on my love of tapping.
To you.
And so that you can learn these techniques yourself and use them and find them helpful.
I also like to use heart moths,
So we'll finish this now because it's another way to manage,
Accept,
Move through anxieties and stresses.
So we'll just end this little session,
This little talk about tapping.
Perhaps if you can,
If you're in a position to do so,
Putting your hands on your heart.
Or just feel yourself breathing.
And just breathe in a little bit more consciously then.
You have before and breathe out.
And just breathe in for five,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five.
Breathe out for five,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five.
And if you can Just stay for a while,
Watching your breathing.
Letting your body settle.
I hope you will do this tapping again that I've talked about and your breathing.
It's useful to help you go to sleep.
It's useful in the morning.
They're useful at any time of the day.
Thanks for listening.
