Today's practice is an invitation to come home to yourself.
This is simply a space to slow down,
To listen inwardly,
And to reconnect with yourself in a gentle way.
In this practice,
We'll turn toward an aspect of you that may have learned to stay separate or guarded,
That's holding something alone,
And we'll meet it with curiosity and compassion.
Not to change it,
But to bring it back into relationship with you.
Let's begin here,
Sitting on the floor or in a chair.
Allow your hands to rest wherever they feel comfortable,
Finding a sense of ease in your body.
If it feels okay,
Eyes gently closing,
Or soften your gaze if that feels comfortable,
Letting yourself land,
Taking a few slow,
Easy breaths,
Allowing your exhale to be longer than your inhale,
Releasing tension with each out-breath,
Relaxing your shoulders,
Letting them drop a little with each exhale,
Softening your jaw,
Allowing the space between the eyes to soften.
We'll take a few breath holds to help the body settle more fully.
When you're ready,
Take a long,
Slow breath in through your nose,
Filling your lungs,
Holding gently at the top,
And release the breath,
Again,
Breathing in through the nose,
Filling fully,
Holding,
Press the shoulders back and down,
And exhale with a sigh.
One more breath like this,
Filling up through the nose,
Fill up,
Fill up,
Fill up,
Hold your breath at the top,
Allow your belly and chest to expand,
Let the breath circulate while you hold,
And when you're ready,
Releasing completely with a sigh.
Now simply notice your body,
The weight of it,
The places where it meets the surface beneath you,
Allowing yourself to feel how you're being held and supported.
Now bring gentle awareness to your body as a whole,
And without judgment,
Simply notice where there's ease,
Where there's holding,
Nothing to change,
Nothing to fix,
Everything is welcome,
Noticing your emotional state,
Noticing what's present beneath the surface,
Allowing whatever is here to be here.
Now bringing awareness to the quality of your thoughts,
Noticing their pace,
Maybe they've already slowed down,
Just observing the mind the way you'd watch clouds drift across the sky,
I invite you to imagine a soft beam or column of light above your head,
This light,
Gentle and spacious,
Begins to widen,
Broader than your body,
Streaming in from above and through the crown of your head,
Sense it moving around you and within you,
Flowing gently downward from the head to the throat,
The throat to the chest,
The chest to the belly,
The belly to the hips,
And down through the legs and feet,
Continuing all the way into the earth beneath you.
Now imagine a matching beam of light rising from the earth,
Wider than your body,
It moves upward through the ground,
Traveling gently up through your body,
And continuing out through the crown and into the space above you,
Notice how these currents meet within you,
Bringing a sense of balance and ease,
There's nothing you need to do,
This happens naturally and effortlessly,
And from this space you're invited to gently turn your attention inward,
Meeting yourself with warmth,
Curiosity,
And openness,
Allow your awareness to settle on an aspect of you that's been asking for attention,
You don't need to search,
You don't need to figure it out,
Simply allow a sensation,
A feeling,
Or a sense to arise,
It may be connected to something recent,
Maybe a moment you weren't proud of,
Or a time you felt unsettled,
Or it may simply be a feeling without a story,
Whatever shows itself is welcome,
Trust that your system will bring forward what feels ready to be met today,
I invite you to sense this aspect of you as a younger version of yourself,
Notice what this part of you seems to be carrying,
Perhaps effort,
Fear,
Confusion,
Longing,
Or something else entirely,
I invite you to connect with this part of yourself,
Allow sensations,
Memories,
Or impressions to arise in their own way,
And as this part of you comes into clear awareness,
You may start to sense how much it's been carrying,
I invite you to meet this part of you with the same quality of presence you'd offer someone you care for deeply,
Allow this younger aspect to come a little bit closer,
Perhaps sitting next to you,
And now just notice whatever it is that they may be feeling,
Acknowledging them,
How they feel,
Really getting what it's like for them,
Offering this part of you your loving presence,
And for the next few moments,
Allow yourself to simply be together,
If it feels right,
Imagine offering this young part a gentle embrace,
Notice how the separation between the two of you begins to soften,
You may begin to sense that this part isn't outside of you,
Just a younger you that's been quietly waiting to be welcomed home,
You may begin to sense this aspect coming back into relationship with you,
Softening,
Settling,
Beginning to trust your presence,
Your love,
Now allow the awareness of that soft column of light to return,
Surrounding you,
Moving through you,
From above,
From below,
Restoring ease,
Restoring coherence,
Restoring what has always been here,
Bring awareness back to the breath,
The gentle rise and fall of the belly or the chest,
Place a hand over your heart,
And thank yourself for your willingness to listen inwardly,
Take a slow breath in through the nose,
And exhale gently through the mouth,
Two more breaths like that,
I invite you to use this practice anytime you feel disconnected from yourself,
Or from parts of you that feel distant,
Not to change what's there,
But to meet it with care,
As what felt separate is gently welcomed back into the whole,
And when you feel ready,
Allow the eyes to open,
Bringing this quality of presence with you,
Thank you for taking the time to connect within today
