Welcome,
Dear one.
I'm so glad you're here.
Today we're exploring something many of us experience every day.
Punching it.
Perhaps you notice it in your shoulders,
Your neck,
Your jaw,
Chest,
Stomach,
Or your hips.
Or maybe you've become so used to it that you hardly notice it at all.
Many people think tension means something is wrong.
That their body is failing them somehow,
But often tension is simply information.
The body's way of communicating,
Adapting,
Or trying to protect.
When your nervous system senses stress,
Uncertainty,
Pressure,
Or overwhelm,
Muscles often begin to tighten automatically.
This happens without conscious thought.
The body prepares itself.
It braces.
It gets ready.
This response can be incredibly helpful when there is a genuine threat,
But modern stress is often different.
Many of the things we experience today don't resolve quickly.
Deadlines,
Responsibilities,
Financial concerns,
Family challenges,
Chronic stress,
Constant busyness.
The body may continue holding tension long after the stressful moment has passed.
Not because you're doing something wrong,
But because the nervous system has learned to stay prepared.
Sometimes people try to force tension away.
They tell themselves to relax,
Stop worrying,
To let it go.
But tension often responds better to curiosity than force.
Because tension is usually trying to communicate something.
Perhaps I'm tired,
I'm overwhelmed I need support.
I need rest.
I don't feel safe or I've been caring too much.
This doesn't mean every sensation has a deep meaning,
But it does mean that listening can sometimes be more helpful than fighting.
This is one reason somatic practices focus so much on awareness.
We can begin by noticing.
Not fixing,
Not changing.
Not judging.
Just noticing.
Maybe we notice the jaw.
The shoulders.
Maybe we notice that we're holding our breath.
Awareness creates space and often space allows softening before we close.
I invite you to take a moment to gently scan your body.
Working your way from your head down through your neck your shoulders,
Down your arms.
Your hands.
Coming back up to your chest down to your belly,
Your pelvis.
Your hips down through your legs,
Through your upper legs.
Through your knees,
Your lower legs all the way down to your feet and your toes.
Notice one area holding a little tension.
There's no need to change it.
Simply noticing and perhaps asking.
What might this part of me need right now?
Rest.
Movement.
Support.
Comfort.
There is no right answer.
Just an imitation to listen.
Listening is always enough.
Thank you for being here,
Dear One.
And remember,
You are always welcome here,
To soften and to settle.
