After feeling misread in a small moment,
I can look minor from the outside,
And still stay with you for hours.
A look,
A comment,
A wrong assumption,
A version of you someone spoke to that did not feel like you at all.
And now your body may still be holding it,
So before you dismiss it,
Let us make room for what landed.
Feel the chair beneath you,
Let your feet press lightly into the floor,
Let your shoulders stop preparing to explain.
You do not need to prove that it was small,
Or that it should not matter,
Your body already knows.
Notice where the misreading stayed,
Maybe in the throat where words got caught,
Maybe in the chest where something tightened,
Maybe in the face still holding a trace of effort.
Let your mouth soften,
Let your breath reach lower,
Let your hands rest without fixing anything.
Being misread can stir something old,
The feeling of not being seen clearly,
The strain of wanting to correct without making more of it,
The loneliness of holding your real experience alone for a moment,
That is a lot for one small interaction,
No wonder your body stayed with it.
You do not need to settle the whole thing right now,
You do not need to decide whether to address it,
You do not need to organize the moment into a lesson,
For now,
Just let your system know,
You are no longer inside it,
You are here,
Breathing,
Supported,
No longer reaching to be understood for these few minutes,
It affected me,
Even if it looks small.
I do not need to minimize what I felt,
Being misread can hurt,
I can care for myself before I explain myself,
My body deserves gentleness after tension,
I can return to myself without defending my experience.
Let the chest soften a little,
Let the throat have more space,
Let your eyes rest,
You do not need to replay the look,
The tone or the sentence again,
Right now,
You are allowed to stop reaching outward and come back inward,
To the breath,
To the body,
To the support already here,
But not every hurt needs immediate language,
Some moments first need settling,
So let yourself settle,
Let yourself be with what was real for you,
Let the body come down from the effort of being misunderstood.
After feeling misread,
In a small moment,
After feeling misread,
In a small moment.
