Hi,
I'm Kim Pasch.
Welcome to Rain After The Storm.
This practice combines rain with wise mind,
Using the image of a storm clearing to help us recognize,
Allow,
Investigate,
And nurture difficult emotions.
Settle into a comfortable position and allow your body to arrive.
For the first minute,
We'll practice a breath of breathing in through your nose.
And then exhale softly with a humming sound.
Breathing in through your nose.
And then exhale with a soft humming sound.
Continue a few more rounds on your own creating a light pressure of the lips and feeling the vibration through your face,
Throat and chest.
Keeping it gentle and comfortable Completing one last round.
And at the bottom of your next exhaling hum sound,
Begin to take a deep breath in through the nose.
And a soft breath out the mouth.
And now imagine a storm passing through the sky.
You don't have to stop the storm.
You can simply witness it.
Recognize.
What emotion is here?
Name it gently.
Is it sadness,
Anger,
Fear?
Loneliness or overwhelm.
Bringing your attention into your body.
Where do you feel it,
The emotion that you recognize?
Next,
Allow.
Imagine opening a little space around the sensation.
You don't have to make it bigger.
You don't have to make it disappear.
Simply let it be here for this breath.
And next investigate.
With curiosity,
You might ask,
What might this feeling need me to know?
Listen to the body before the story.
Is there a need for rest,
Safety,
Connection,
Perhaps a boundary,
Support,
Or even space?
Next,
Nurture.
Imagine sunlight beginning to break through the clouds.
You might place a hand somewhere supportive if that feels comfortable.
And silently say,
I am here with myself.
Taking a slow breath in and out.
And now asking your wise mind.
What is the kindest,
Most effective next step?
Notice what arises without demanding certainty.
You might imagine the storm moving across the sky.
While the light remains behind it.
Taking one final slow breath in.
And a long,
Slow breath out.
Remembering that emotions are weather.
You can honor the storm without becoming the storm.
And when you're ready,
Returning to your space and perhaps carrying just a little bit more of this light with you.
