Welcome.
Thank you for taking some time with me to pause,
Breathe,
And gently return to yourself.
In this 12-minute guided meditation.
We'll be spending time with emotional pain or discomfort that's present with you right now.
Using the breath as an anchor to the present moment,
We'll be gently connecting to the emotion and how it manifests in your body,
And allow the breath to support you in sitting with what's difficult.
You can do this practice sitting up or lying down.
Whatever position that allows you to relax while maintaining enough attention to focus on the practice.
Let's settle in and journey together.
Take a moment to reconnect with the rise and fall of the breath.
Observing all the sensations involved with your inhale and exhale.
And allowing the breath to invite you back into the present moment.
Notice how your body feels in space.
How it lands on whatever surface you're resting against.
And observe any physical sensations that are present.
As you breathe.
Allow yourself to tune in to the internal messages you're receiving from your mind and body.
Letting go of the day thus far.
All the concerns of past moments and worries about future moments.
And tuning in to what's here and now.
As you witness the breath,
You may notice some emotional pain or discomfort that's calling your attention.
You may know what you're feeling.
Sadness,
Grief,
Frustration,
Loneliness,
Shame.
Or you may be aware of a physical sensation.
A weight on your chest.
A sinking sensation in your belly.
A clenching in your throat.
Pressure behind the eyes.
Or an urge to disconnect from your body completely.
However your emotional pain is manifesting right now.
Take a moment to witness it.
You can choose a single place in your body where your emotion feels most present.
As you continue to breathe naturally.
Allow yourself to lean in to the sensation.
To approach it with gentleness and compassion.
If it feels right,
You can place a hand over the area where you feel the sensation to add some comfort or soothing.
If at any point this practice becomes too intense,
Bring your awareness back to the rise and fall of your breath.
You may notice a tendency to tense up around the sensation.
Or a more shallow breath as you connect to the feeling.
When you feel the urge to tighten,
Keep your inhale and exhale as full as possible and allow yourself to loosen your muscles and release tension with each exhale.
If your mind starts to wander,
As it naturally will.
Repeat to yourself silently.
Inhale to lean in.
Exhale to soften.
As you sit with this feeling,
There may be difficult thoughts alongside it.
And if so,
Allow yourself the option to observe these thoughts without attaching to them.
Sometimes emotional pain sticks around because of the thoughts about it we hold on to.
Instead of clinging to or arguing with these thoughts,
Watch them arise and pass by.
Like leaves in a pond or clouds in a vast sky.
It's natural to want to distract yourself or turn away from the feeling,
Especially if it's heavy.
If it becomes too much,
Bring yourself back to the sensations and rhythm of your breath.
Or an area of your body that feels comfortable or neutral.
Inhale to lean in.
And exhale to soften.
As you build a relationship with what you're feeling,
There may be something that this emotion or sensation needs to communicate to you.
You might ask.
What's here?
What do you want me to know?
What do you need?
You may get an answer or you may not.
Both are okay.
Sit with the intention to learn more about what's present.
Inhale to lean in.
And exhale to soften.
There may be something you wish to communicate to this feeling or sensation.
Maybe a word of safety,
Soothing or comfort.
Or a gentle acknowledgement.
I see you.
I'm here with you.
Or whatever else might be necessary to say.
Inhale to lean in.
Exhale to soften.
As we start to close this practice,
Notice what's shifted,
What's changed.
You might notice a sense of openness.
Some emotional release through tears or a deep sigh.
Or nothing at all.
Whatever you experience in this moment is okay.
Send some gratitude to yourself for intentionally engaging with your emotions.
Take one more slow,
Nourishing breath.
And buy them some Gentle Movement.
Open your eyes if you have them closed.
And bring your awareness back to your current time and space.
Thank you for taking some time to practice with me.
And I look forward to our next journey together.
