Welcome to our recovery journey with a guided meditation on satya or truthfulness.
I'm Kevin.
I live with a chronic,
Progressive,
Potentially deadly condition of substance use disorder.
I have been in recovery since March 17,
2012.
The yamas comprise the first of the eight limbs of yoga described by Patanjali.
Satya is the second practice,
The second yama.
Satya follows ahimsa,
Which calls on us to refrain from harm or violence to ourselves and others.
Satya calls this to truthfulness.
To the truth.
Authenticity.
Validity.
Integrity.
To honoring ourselves and our truth.
As we settle into our meditation,
I invite you to find a comfortable position where you feel supported and safe.
You might notice how your body feels right now.
You might take a moment to release any tension or tightness in your forehead.
Your face.
Your jaws.
Your neck.
Any tightness in your shoulders?
Arms,
Wrists.
Enhance Any tension in your back?
Your chest.
Abdomen.
Hips.
Your legs,
Ankles.
And feet.
You might notice your body's connection with the surface you are on.
The surface's texture.
Its temperature.
Its firmness or softness.
Whatever position you are in.
Let yourself find ease.
You might take a moment to notice your breathing.
Breathe naturally.
And comfortably.
Right now,
We are practicing satya.
There is nothing truer.
Nothing more authentic.
Nothing more indisputable than holding our own space.
Breathing our own breath.
Being fully present in our own body.
If at no other time today,
Then surely right now we are embodying Satya.
Truthfulness.
Refraining from dishonesty.
When you inhale.
Appreciate that right now.
We are being completely honest with ourselves.
We may not have been in the past.
We may not be in the future.
Right now.
In this breath,
We are.
When you exhale.
Appreciate it right now.
We are not being dishonest with anyone else.
We may have been in the past.
We may be in the future.
Right now.
In this breath,
We are not.
When you inhale,
Notice that you're inhaling clean,
Clear air,
Free from harmful substances.
When you exhale.
Notice that your breath is free from harmful substances.
When you inhale.
Notice that you are able to notice your breath.
Your mind is right here.
Right now.
With you.
Able to support your intention.
When you exhale.
Notice that your mind is still right here.
Right now.
With you.
Fully aware of your thoughts and actions.
Right now,
Resting in our most authentic state.
We are able to notice what it feels like to be completely honest with ourselves.
We can recall this feeling whenever we need to remember what truth feels like in our bodies.
In this breath,
We can embrace our truth.
Our deepest truth.
Even the truth we may not share with others.
In this breath,
We can accept that many of our past decisions and actions have been directed by our disorders.
In this breath.
We can appreciate that we are right where we need to be on our path of recovery.
We are not perfect.
Right now,
In this breath.
You're on the path.
That is enough for now.
In this breath,
We can rest in the safety and comfort of ourselves.
No matter what we may have done in the past.
Or what we may do in the future.
Right now,
In this breath.
We are fully capable of holding our whole selves.
In this breath.
In this practice of satya.
We can carry the full truth of our disorders.
There may be painful elements of that truth,
But they are truth.
Our truth.
They brought us where we are in this moment.
In this breath.
On our honest path of recovery.
Our most profound truth.
Is that we can live free from the bondage of our disorders.
Following a path illuminated by Satya,
We can allow ourselves to commit to a recovery that is right for us.
We can be honest with ourselves about our disorders.
About our past.
About the unknowns of our future.
We can live free from the bondage of our disorders.
This is our most profound truth.
