Welcome.
Before the day starts asking things from you.
Take these few minutes to arrive in it.
Maybe you just woke up.
Maybe you've already checked the time,
Looked at your phone,
Started the coffee,
Or begun thinking about everything waiting for you.
Wherever you are,
Let this be a small reset.
Find a position that feels comfortable and supported.
You can sit,
Lie down,
Or stay right where you are.
If closing your eyes feels comfortable,
Do so.
Otherwise,
Soften your gaze.
You do not need to feel motivated.
You don't need to have a clear plan.
You do not need to turn yourself into a better version of who you were yesterday.
For these few minutes,
The practice is only to arrive in your life before you begin moving through it.
Begin with the places where your body is already supported.
Feel the chair beneath you.
The bed beneath you,
Or the floor beneath your feet.
Notice your weight.
Let gravity do some of the work.
You do not have to hold yourself so tightly this early in the day.
Feel your hands,
Feel your feet.
Notice one place in the body that already feels steady enough.
Now,
Notice the sound close to you.
Then a sound farther away.
Let the room remind you that you are here.
In this morning.
In this body.
Take one easy breath in.
And let it leave without rushing.
Bring a little more attention to your breathing.
Do not make it deep just because you're meditating.
Notice how the breath is already moving.
Feel the inhale arrive.
Feel the exhale leave.
If it feels comfortable.
Let the next exhale last just a little longer than the inhale.
Nothing dramatic,
Just enough to notice the release.
Let your forehead soften.
Let the jaw loosen.
Let the shoulders drop away from the ears.
Another easy breath.
Let the belly move.
Let the hands rest.
You're not trying to create a perfect state of calm.
You're giving the body a little room before the day gathers momentum.
Now,
Notice whether anything from yesterday is already sitting beside you this morning.
A conversation?
Something unfinished.
A mistake,
A worry.
A night that did not feel restful enough.
You do not need to push any of it away.
You also do not need to pick it all up before the day has even begun.
Notice what followed you into this morning.
And imagine loosening your grip around it.
What matters can still matter without being carried every minute.
Yesterday already happened.
You can carry forward what is useful without carrying it all.
The mind may already be trying to hold the entire day at once.
The meetings,
The errands,
The messages,
The people,
The decisions,
The things you hope go well and the things you would rather avoid.
For now.
Let the day become smaller.
You do not have to carry the next 12 hours in this breath.
What is actually in front of you first.
Maybe getting out of bed,
Breakfast,
Getting dressed.
Beginning work.
Caring for someone else.
Let the first part of the day be enough.
One thing at a time.
One conversation at a time.
One decision at a time.
You can meet the day as it arrives instead of trying to live it all now.
Now ask yourself one quiet question.
What quality would help me meet today?
Do not choose the word you think you should choose.
Notice what actually feels useful.
Steadiness.
Patience.
Clarity.
Courage.
Openness.
Kindness.
Confidence,
Ease.
Maybe another word comes to you.
Let one quality rise above the others.
You do not have to feel that quality perfectly right now.
Think of it as something you can return to.
Imagine the first part of your day.
Seeing yourself moving into it with a little more of that quality available to you.
Not controlling the day.
Not guaranteeing how anything will go.
Just choosing how you want to meet it.
Let your awareness widen again.
Feel the body as a whole.
The face.
The shoulders.
The chest.
Belly.
Hands and feet.
Notice the room around you.
Take one fuller breath.
If that feels comfortable.
And let it go.
Maybe move your fingers or toes.
Maybe roll the shoulders or stretch.
The morning does not need to feel perfect to belong to you.
Carry only what is useful from this practice.
Ground when you notice yourself rushing.
Breathe when you feel yourself tightening.
And when the whole day feels too large.
Come back to the next thing in front of you.
Feel yourself getting ready to move back into the morning.
When you are ready,
Open your eyes or lift your gaze.
Before you move on,
Remember the quality you chose.
You do not have to hold on to it all day.
Just notice when you need to return to it.
Thank you for giving yourself these few minutes before giving the day your attention.
You can return to this practice tomorrow morning or any morning when you want a steadier place to begin.
If you'd like,
Share one word in the Insight Timer community that describes how you want to meet your day.
Ground.
Breath.
Begin.
Thank you and good day.
