Welcome.
This is the third practice in the return series.
We've explored finding steadiness and loosening what we carry.
This practice moves a little deeper into surrender.
When we let go,
We may release a thought.
A worry,
A memory,
Or something we have been carrying.
Surrender as something different.
What if,
For a little while,
You stopped needing to know exactly how everything is going to work out?
What if you didn't have to control the next moment?
Find a position where your body feels supported.
Let your eyes close if that feels comfortable.
And begin by noticing one ordinary breath.
Nothing dramatic.
Just this breath.
Than this one.
You are here.
That's enough to begin.
Before we go any farther,
I want to be clear about something.
Surrender is not giving up.
It is not agreeing with everything that has happened.
It's not abandoning your boundaries.
It's not staying silent when action is needed.
And it is never an instruction to remain in something unsafe.
Surrender is releasing the demand that this moment must become something else before you're allowed to be okay.
It is loosening the exhausting belief that you have to control every outcome to find peace.
For a few minutes.
See what it feels like.
To stop pushing against what is already here.
Bring your attention to your body's weight.
Feel what is beneath you.
Let yourself be happy.
There is something interesting about surrendering your physical weight.
The moment you stop holding yourself quite so rigidly.
The Chair takes more of you.
The floor.
Takes more of you.
The bed takes more of you.
You discover that support was already there.
See if you can give it another 5%.
You do not need to collapse.
Just stop holding quite so much.
Now,
Notice your hands.
If they are closed,
Clenched,
Or folded tightly.
Let them open.
Maybe turn your palms slightly upward.
Feel the difference.
An open hand cannot grip in the same way.
For now.
Let your hands represent your relationship with this moment.
You're not grabbing it.
You're not pushing it away.
You're allowing it to be here.
Deep breath moving in.
Deep Breath,
Moving out.
Sounds appearing.
Sounds disappearing.
Thoughts arriving?
Thoughts moving on.
Life moving without your supervision.
Think of something uncertain in your life.
Nothing overwhelming.
Choose something manageable.
Maybe you're waiting for an answer.
You're wondering how something will work out.
Maybe you have a decision to make.
Maybe you wish you could control the situation.
Notice what happens inside you when you think about not knowing.
Do you Titan?
Do you begin planning?
Do you mentally run through possibilities?
You do not need to stop yourself.
Just notice.
How much energy the mind uses.
Trying to arrive in a future that has not happened yet.
Take an easy breath.
And quietly tell yourself.
I do not have to know yet.
Again.
I do not have to know yet.
Notice whether part of you immediately argues.
But I need to know.
I need to plan.
I need an answer.
You can notice that voice without fighting it.
And underneath it.
Leave just a little space for another possibility.
Maybe not knowing is uncomfortable.
But maybe you can survive this moment.
Without an answer.
Sometimes we spend enormous amounts of energy negotiating with reality.
This should not have happened.
That person should have acted differently.
I should be farther along.
This should be easier.
I should know what to do.
Some of those thoughts may be understandable.
Some may even be true.
But notice what happens when you repeat them.
The moment does not change.
Only the struggle within the moment grows.
For now.
You do not have to approve of anything.
See if you can stop arguing with what has already arrived.
Just for this breath.
Bring all your attention to breathing.
Notice something remarkable and very ordinary.
You are not personally manufacturing every breath.
Breathing is happening.
The inhale arrives.
The exhale follows.
You can influence it.
But you do not have to manage every part of it.
Let the breath remind you what it feels like to participate without controlling everything.
Receiving.
Releasing.
Receiving.
Releasing.
Life,
Moving through a rhythm,
You do not have to force.
Return for a moment.
To the uncertainty you thought about earlier.
Imagine holding that outcome in your open hands.
You may know what you hope happens.
You may know what you fear will happen.
Let both possibilities be there.
Then,
Notice the space between them.
The place where you genuinely do not know.
See if you can rest there for just a few seconds.
Not knowing.
Still breathing.
Not controlling.
Still here.
If these words feel right,
Let them move through you.
I release what I cannot control.
I keep.
What I choose.
I do not need every answer today.
Let the words go.
Let the technique go.
For this next minute.
Do not try to deepen the meditation.
Do not try to become.
More peaceful.
Do not try to have an experience.
Let yourself be here.
Without trying to improve the moment.
Nothing to force.
Begin to notice your body again.
The surface beneath you.
The room around you.
Your open hands.
Maybe move your fingers.
Notice that surrender didn't make you disappear.
You are still here.
You still have choices.
You still have boundaries?
You still have agency.
What you may have released is the belief that you have to control everything before you can breathe.
Take that difference with you.
When you're ready.
Open your eyes.
You do not have to know how everything ends.
You only have to meet.
What is actually here.
And then.
.
.
When the next moment arrives.
You can mean that one too.
Thank you for trusting yourself enough to spend a little time here.
Especially in places where there may not be an answer yet.
The final practice in the return series is integrating.
There we will bring together what we have practiced.
Finding steadiness.
Loosening our grip.
Making room for uncertainty,
And learning how to carry those experiences back into everyday life.
Whenever you're ready,
I'll meet you there.

Thank you and good day.
