Hello my friends.
Today I wanted to talk about the importance of letting yourself be.
And what I mean by that is so often when we have something mundane to do or even just throughout our day when we're working or spending time with family or friends.
We have so much activity going on in the background.
I want you to think about the last time you were cooking dinner.
Did you have a TV show in the background?
Or you're listening to a podcast.
Maybe when you're driving in the car.
I think a better question would be,
When is the last time you drove in the car without any music on in the background or without a podcast on or an audiobook or something filling the silence.
It's so easy for us to get in the habit of filling every quiet moment with activity.
We have so much easy entertainment at our fingertips.
Podcast.
Television.
Audiobook.
Meditations even,
Right?
Just something that fills in the silence.
This is coming from someone who loves podcasts.
If I am not intentional.
I'm going to have a podcast on at all times.
I love learning.
I love listening.
But I've realized.
.
.
That when I spend too much extended time.
Filling in my quiet moments with background noise,
Even if it's something that isn't very good,
Something educational.
I start to lose the connection with myself.
I saw this really great analogy.
It was an Instagram post,
Believe it or not,
Speaking of filling my time,
Right?
But it was an Instagram post and I lost it.
But there was an analogy that I wanted to share with you guys because I feel like It just spoke to me and it's been sitting with me.
The idea is that.
.
.
Think about driving in a car.
Think about trying to follow directions and you don't know when your next turn is coming up.
Naturally,
When you're feeling lost or like you don't know where to go next or when you're really trying to focus on finding a street name,
What do you do?
You turn the volume down on the radio.
Whatever you're listening to,
You tend to turn it down.
And we turn that down because as people.
It's easier for us to concentrate.
If our focus can be on one thing.
Of our senses,
In this case,
And our eyesight when we're in the car looking for what we need to look for.
And I know that's kind of a joke of like,
Why do I turn the volume down?
And I'm looking for directions.
But that's exactly it.
We have a hard time thinking and noticing what we're seeing.
We have some.
Additional noise in the background.
So it makes you wonder.
If we're moving through the journey of life.
Living life.
Where each moment is us.
Metaphorically driving to our next destination,
Our next journey,
Our next experience.
How are we expected to hear where to go next?
If we allow that background noise to be on constantly.
Today,
I want to encourage you.
To turn down the volume.
Of your life just a little bit.
Turn down the volume of the background noise.
So that when you're doing the dishes or when you're driving somewhere or maybe just when you're doing the laundry or when you're playing with your kids or when you're having a conversation with a neighbor or whatever you're doing.
Can we all be more intentional about sometimes having nothing else happening in the background?
No additional noise.
Taking our attention.
Away from our inner voice.
Taking our attention away.
From what's happening up here.
And all the answers that we have inside.
That continue to be blacked out.
By that excess noise,
That extra noise that continues.
To be hard for us to concentrate on.
Because we simply have to turn the volume down.
So take a moment here.
Let's take five.
Intentional breaths together.
Practice being here,
Practice digesting that information.
And setting your intention.
For how you want to spend the rest of your day.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
You then.
Breathe out.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
My friend,
Have the most amazing rest of your day.
Turn that volume down.
And tune in to your inner voice right in here.
I see you.
I love you.
Until next time.
