This practice exercises the Anterior Cingulate Cortex (ACC) of the brain. The ACC is responsible for monitoring when your mind has wandered from a task and bringing your awareness back to the task at hand. Practicing with your breath as the focusing point in this practice today may transfer to improving focus in daily tasks. The more you practice, the better this part of your brain can be at focusing. This practice may also improve meditation skills over time.
