Welcome and thank you for being here.
Unlike most meditations,
I'll request you to keep your eyes open for this one.
This practice is rooted in the principles of improv comedy,
An art form that is all about freedom from self-judgment.
Too often we lose confidence in ourselves.
Can I really do this?
Am I good enough?
Why do I feel behind compared to others?
Over time,
These thoughts become more than passing doubts.
They attach themselves to your identity so much that you start believing them.
But what if we could detach from these labels,
Even just for a moment?
What if we could step outside of the self-criticism and see it for what it really is?
Just a story we told ourselves.
This meditation will help you create distance from that identity using the power of play.
We begin now.
Listen carefully and follow along.
Identity If you can,
Stand in front of a mirror.
If not,
Simply visualize yourself standing there.
Now,
Choose one sound and one movement.
Maybe a playful sound like,
As you do a dramatic movement,
Say a karate chop.
Or perhaps a sound such as,
And a movement where you swirl your hands like you're stirring a giant pot.
Whatever feels fun,
Spontaneous,
And completely unlike your usual self.
Let it be ridiculous.
Try it now.
Pick yourself one sound and one movement.
Now,
This is your improvised identity.
Remember it.
Because it is a character that exists outside of your doubt,
Outside of your self-judgment.
A version of you that simply is.
Step 2.
Breaking the cycle of self-doubt.
The next time self-doubt sneaks into you,
When you start overthinking,
When you feel unworthy,
When you hesitate,
Immediately break into your improvised identity.
Do the sound that you just did,
Along with the movement that you just did.
If you're not comfortable doing it in public,
Step into a restroom or any private space.
But do it.
Perform your improvised identity.
Your sound and your movement.
Let it shake you out of the heavy seriousness of doubt.
Because here is the truth.
Your real identity,
The one beyond self-doubt,
Is capable,
Powerful,
And enough.
With the right effort,
The right mindset,
You can grow into anything you desire.
A small shift in perspective,
A playful interruption of doubt,
Can create your lasting confidence.
So are you willing to try it the next time self-doubt sneaks in?
Thank you for doing this playful meditation with all your enthusiasm.
