Hi,
A lot of times when we think about progress in life we attach a keyword to it and that keyword is gain.
We're always saying that we need to gain something to make progress in life but what if I tell you that progress in life is also about dropping certain things and letting go of certain things,
Losing on some things.
Yeah,
Because you know you'll have to let go of fried food if you want to progress in your journey of fitness,
Right?
You might have to let go of certain grudges if you want to develop certain strong trustworthy relationships.
And there is a yogic principle called Vairagya,
It means detachment.
And if you can practice this principle it can really help you come up with some amazing solutions which can help you progress in different areas of your life.
And when I say detachment it doesn't mean giving up on life,
It means sometimes you need to stop clinging on to things that don't serve you anymore.
And when you do that you actually open up space in your mind,
You bring in a kind of a clarity and calm in your mind and then you can think some really good solutions.
I'll give you an example,
Okay?
Say you live in a home that is on lease and it's a really pretty house and you really like it,
You're attached to it and one fine day the landlord's like,
Hey you know what something's come up and you need to vacate this home immediately.
I know this can be a little stressful,
It's happened with me but instead of clinging on to the home and being like,
Oh you know,
I don't want to leave this and this is an amazing place and you're settled in here,
Just pause for a moment,
All right?
Try to get a little detached from it,
Okay?
And you will be surprised,
You'll experience that your mind is actually just opening up,
It's feeling calmer,
It's getting more clear and then some amazing solutions start kicking in and you might,
You know,
Be really encouraged to start going on different platforms,
Looking for new homes to lease and this is a small example of detachment but,
You know,
A lot of times you might have to detach from certain old habits that are not serving you anymore,
Certain kinds of foods,
Certain routines if you want to build your fitness.
So I want to share a wonderful practice that I did.
I actually was on a retreat and I experienced this practice of letting go which was so powerful and I would love to share it with you,
All right?
So just grab a piece of paper and a pen,
Right?
And write down some things you really want to let go of in this year,
Maybe some old habits,
Some old memories,
Traumas,
Certain food items,
Certain toxic connections,
Anything,
Just write it down.
It can be a single line,
It can be two or three pages,
Just write it down,
All right?
Now once you have written that down,
Tear that sheet and put it in fire and watch that burn before your eyes.
You can put it in a bonfire,
You might not be able to do this at home,
I mean do it with safety,
The alarms shouldn't go off,
The fire alarms.
So you can even flush it in the restroom but watch that visual of the stone pieces of paper going up in flames or going down in the flush,
Getting washed away with water.
And this visual is something so powerful because when I did it and the next time I wanted to revisit that old memory that was traumatic,
I was quickly reminded by that visual of those,
You know,
Sheets of paper going up in flames and I just reminded myself that,
Hey,
Relax,
I have dropped this thing,
I have let it go and it's time for new memories and new connections,
Right?
So I wish you all the best in dropping these things and the memories and fears that don't serve you anymore because progress is also about dropping some things.
