So there is a moment that happens for a lot of people right around bedtime.
The house gets quiet,
The distractions fall away,
And suddenly everything that you have been carrying all day rushes in.
The worries,
The replays,
The mental to-do lists,
The things you said and the things you should have said.
And instead of rest,
You get a second shift,
A mental shift that nobody asked for and nobody needs.
I want to talk to you tonight about why that happens,
And more importantly,
How to actually let the day go.
Not just distract yourself from it,
But genuinely release it so your mind and body can do what they were designed to do,
Rest.
Here's what I want you to do.
Understand first that your brain does not automatically know that the day is over.
It has been in problem-solving mode since the moment that you woke up.
And unless you give it a clear signal that its job is done for the night,
It will just keep on going.
It will keep scanning,
Planning,
Worrying,
Replaying,
Not because something is wrong with you,
But because it is doing exactly what it was built to do.
It just needs permission to stop.
You and that permission has to come from you.
That is actually really good news because it means that you have more control over this than you think.
The second thing that I want you to understand is that most sleeplessness is not really about sleep at all.
It's really about unfinished emotional business from the day.
Things that felt unresolved,
Conversations that left a residue,
Moments where you felt like you fell short.
Your mind keeps returning to them because it is trying to fix them.
But here is the truth,
Not everything can be fixed at 11pm,
And some things were never yours to fix in the first place.
There is a kind of rest that goes deeper than just closing your eyes.
It is the rest that comes when you genuinely trust that you do not have to hold everything together tonight.
That the things beyond your control are not beyond care,
That you are allowed to put it down,
That tomorrow has enough grace in it for whatever tomorrow brings.
That is the rest that I want to help you find tonight.
Not just sleep,
But real peace.
The kind that doesn't depend on everything being figured out first.
So in a moment,
I'm going to guide you through a short meditation that is going to help your mind and body just make that transition.
You don't have to do anything perfectly and you don't have to empty your mind or achieve some special state.
You just have to be willing to let go even just a little and let rest come to you.
Okay,
So find a comfortable position.
Close your eyes and when you're ready,
Let's begin.
So let yourself settle in now,
However you are lying or sitting.
Just allow your body to become a little heavier,
A little softer.
You don't have to hold anything up right now.
Let the surface beneath you do that work.
Take a slow breath in through your nose.
And a long,
Easy breath out.
Breathe in.
And breathe out.
And let it go completely.
With each breath out,
Give yourself permission to arrive here.
Not in tomorrow,
Not in what happened today,
Just here.
Just now,
Just this moment of rest that belongs entirely to you.
I want you to imagine for a moment that you are setting down everything that you carried today.
Not solving it,
Not reviewing it,
Just setting it down.
Like taking off a heavy coat at the end of a long day and hanging it by the door.
It'll be there if you need it tomorrow,
But tonight you don't have to wear it.
Every worry,
Set it down.
Every unfinished thing,
Set it down.
Every conversation that replayed in your mind,
Set it down.
Every place you felt like you fell short today,
Set it down.
You were not designed to carry all of this through the night.
You were designed for rest.
We'll rest now.
The kind that restores you from the inside out.
Notice your body now,
Starting at the top of your head.
Just allow any tension there to soften.
Your forehead,
The space between your eyes,
Your jaw.
So many of us carry tension in our jaw without even realizing it.
Just let it go.
Shoulders,
Let them drop,
Your arms heavy and relaxed.
Your hands soft and open.
Your chest,
Notice if you have been holding any tightness there.
Just breathe.
Let your chest soften with each exhale.
Your stomach,
Your lower back,
Releasing your hips,
Your legs.
All the way down to your toes,
Just heavy,
Just releasing.
You don't have to hold on to anything.
Just rest here.
Rest in this truth you are not alone in this night same grace that carried you through this day is present with you right now.
In this moment.
You don't have to earn it or perform for it.
It is simply here,
Steady and quiet and sure.
Whatever you felt hard today,
Whatever felt unfinished,
Whatever you were afraid of for tomorrow,
It has helped.
You can rest because you are not the one holding it all together.
You never were.
Breathe in that peace now.
And breathe out anything you are still holding on to.
Breathe in,
Rest.
And breathe out anything that you feel that you still need to solve.
Breathe in stillness.
There is nothing you need to solve right now.
Nothing you need to prove.
And nothing you need to become in this moment.
You are simply allowed to be.
Quiet,
Still,
At rest.
Let your thoughts come and go like clouds passing through the sky.
Just let them drift.
And return your attention gently to your breath.
The weight of your body to the quiet,
The room.
You're safe.
You're held.
You are allowed to rest.
Stay here now,
Just breathing.
Allowing yourself to let go.
There is nothing more required of you tonight.
Just sit.
Just peace.
Goodnight.
