From one heart to another,
There's a small opening.
Do not block that opening,
Even if it is no more than the eye of a needle.
You might find that you still feel love or compassion for someone who has hurt you or left you behind,
Someone who belongs to the past or someone still present in your life,
Someone in power or not.
And you may wonder why do I still love this person?
Why do I miss them?
Why does my heart not close?
No matter what boundaries you set to protect yourself from harm,
Rumi reminds us to keep the smallest doorway of love open,
Even if it is only the eye of a needle.
It is completely okay to leave a relationship and still miss that person.
It is okay to be in an argument with a partner and still feel your heart beating for them.
It is okay.
The pathway that remains open is not a weakness.
It is your capacity to recognize beauty in another human being.
It is the part of you that is drawn to the beauty of each person.
Do not block this opening,
Even if you are not moving towards it.
Let it remain.
Let it be.
