In this #MindfulMinute, imagine watching Earth from outer space. As you inhale, see the planet expand gently, and as you exhale, it contracts. With each breath, feel connected—your breath and Earth’s as one.

Transcript

Let's prepare to meditate.

Adjust your body so that you are comfortable.

Close your eyes.

Rest your hands in a way that is comfortable to you.

Take a nice filling breath in.

Breathe deeply in through your nose and breathe out slowly through your mouth.

Do this again.

Now when you exhale,

Breathe out with a long sigh.

Continue this breathing a few more times to settle your mind and body.

You are ready to begin.

Our lungs are like two balloons inside of our chest.

When we inhale,

They expand.

When we exhale,

They deflate.

Turn all of your attention to your lungs for a moment and notice the feeling of them filling and getting bigger and then emptying and getting smaller.

Now imagine yourself floating in outer space,

Looking down at our beautiful planet earth.

Imagine that our planet also has lungs and that she softly and calmly can breathe in and out,

Expanding a little and then contracting.

Imagine watching our planet carefully and notice that when you inhale,

The planet seems to inhale and expand as well.

When you exhale,

The planet seems to contract just a little.

From where you are floating in outer space,

Fly a little closer to the earth and find a group of fluffy white clouds to watch.

Take a few deep breaths and imagine what it would look like for the clouds to get bigger and smaller too.

When you inhale,

Imagine the clouds expanding.

When you exhale,

Imagine them shrinking back to their original shape.

Now fly through the clouds and find a thick green forest to watch.

Imagine this beautiful lush green forest.

Picture it in your mind.

Watch how the trees breathe along with you as the earth and clouds did.

As you inhale,

They expand.

As you exhale,

They contract.

Take a moment now to breathe along with planet earth.

Find other things on our planet that you could breathe along with and enjoy the rest of your mindful minute.

As our meditation comes to a close,

Draw your attention back to your real body.

Notice and feel where your body is touching the floor or chair.

Wiggle your fingers.

Wiggle your toes.

Take a deep breath.

Now go ahead and stretch out your body in any way that feels good to you.

When you are ready,

Open your eyes.

Now go out and find all that's good in your day.
