Hi,
Welcome to Yin Yoga and Creative Writing for Feeling Unseen.
For this session,
You'll need your favorite yoga props,
Your mat,
And or four small cushions.
And for our writing,
A notepad and pen that's open to a blank page and placed quite close to you.
When you're ready,
Please join me on the mat in simple crossed legs.
You can sit up on a cushion or block for height and comfort,
Especially if your lower back is rounded or sagging.
On your next exhalation,
Flutter your eyelids closed.
On your inhalation,
Bring your attention to the nose and feel the sensation of air as it enters and leaves your nose.
We'll stay like this for a few breaths.
I invite you to let everything go.
To begin,
We'll take lying down butterfly.
So place two cushions or bolster behind you that will support only your shoulder blades,
Neck and head.
Then take one cushion for either side of your hip crease.
Bring the soles of your feet together and lie back,
Placing your shoulder blades,
Neck and head on your soft support and place a cushion under each thigh as close as possible to your hip crease.
Your palms can face up by your sides Inhale through the nose.
Bring your attention to the sensation of the air as it enters your nose.
Exhale at your own pace We'll take a few full deep breaths here.
On your next exhalation,
Relax your throat,
Collarbones and chest.
Inhale fully and deeply into your side ribs.
Exhale,
Relax your jaw,
Tongue and lips.
Inhale fully into your back rib.
Exhale relax your eyelids,
Temples,
Foreheads.
Inhale fully into your side rib.
Exhale relax your hairline,
Scalp,
Ears.
Inhale fully and deeply into your back rib.
Exhale,
Relax your shoulders,
Arms,
Hands and fingers.
Stay here for a few minutes,
Breathing at your own pace.
On your next exhalation,
Place the soles of your feet on the ground.
Palms by your sides and slowly lift yourself up to sitting in simple cross legs.
Bring your shoulders up to your ears,
Roll them back and down and using your palms on the side of you for support,
Extend both legs out straight.
On your next exhalation,
Bring the sole of your right foot into your inner left thigh,
The side of your right foot resting on the ground,
Your right toes pointing down to your left foot.
The toes of your left foot should be pointing up to the sky.
Exhale fully.
As you inhale,
Lift your fingertips up to the sky.
As you exhale,
Lean your torso forward,
Palms to follow until they rest on your extended shin or foot.
Inhale fully into your back ribs.
As you exhale,
Let your head hang heavy and let everything go.
We'll stay here for a moment.
On your next exhalation,
Lift your fingertips up to the sky.
And as you inhale place them down by your side.
Will change sides.
You can keep your eyes closed if you like.
Bring the sole of your left foot into your inner right thigh.
The side of your left foot should be resting on the ground,
The toes of your left foot pointing down towards your right,
Your right toes pointing up to the sky.
As you inhale,
Bring your palms up to the sky,
Stretch up and toll through your spine.
As you inhale release and lower your torso forward,
Your palms to follow until your palms extend and rest down on your extended shin or foot.
Exhale let your head hang heavy let everything go We'll stay here for a few moments.
Inhale,
Lift your fingertips up to the sky,
Spine extended up tall and as you exhale lower your palms to your sides.
Stretch both legs out straight When you're ready,
Keeping your eyes closed,
You can come into tabletop position on all fours.
Press your palms,
Shin and tops of your feet into the ground.
Feel the solidity of the ground.
Here we'll take just one cat cow.
So on a very slow,
Very full inhalation,
Drop your chin into your chest,
Curve your spine all the way up,
Palms pushing into the ground,
Lift your abdomen up into your spine.
On a very slow,
Very long exhale,
Release,
Lift your chin up to the sky,
Drop your abdomen towards the ground,
Curving your spine in a smiley face,
Rolling your shoulders back and down.
Inhale,
Release your spine and neck to neutral.
Sit back on your heels in child's pose,
Forehead to the ground.
Receive rest Relax your arms,
Close your eyes.
We'll stay here for some time.
As slowly as possible,
Come up to hands and knees with your eyes still closed.
And simple crossed legs.
Inhale fully and deeply and as you exhale Relax the muscles around your eyes.
Soften your eyelids and jaw.
Relax your eyebrows and forehead.
Let your palms rest on your knees facing up.
Breathe at your own pace.
Bring your attention inward.
Slowly,
Very slowly,
Flutter your eyelids open just three quarters of the way.
Bring your attention to the shadows around you let your gaze rest on them and soften What do you see in the shadows?
In your notebook beside you.
List any objects you see in the shadows.
On ground level.
Eye level.
On the ceiling.
What colors do you see in the shadows?
What patterns do you see in the shadows?
What shapes do you see in the shadows?
You can stay seated for this or lift up to standing.
Carefully wander to your window.
If you're sitting just let your gaze look out.
Let your eyes rest in the shadows of the world outside and soften there.
Take a deep breath in.
And as you exhale soften your eyelids.
What do you see in the shadows outside?
List any objects you see in the shadows.
What colors do you see in the shadow?
What patterns do you see in the shadows?
What shapes do you see in the shadows?
At ground,
Eye level,
And the sky?
From both of your lists combined.
Choose six words or phrases and create a sentence for each one.
Please pause the audio here and take your time writing slowly but try not to lift your pen from the page.
None of this needs to make sense and it certainly doesn't need to be perfect.
When you're complete,
Come back.
Choose one sentence that really speaks to you and write a paragraph on it.
If you like,
You can use words from your first list.
When your gaze was resting in the shadows inside and outside.
Again,
None of this needs to make sense or be perfect at all,
But try not to lift your pen from the page and take your time writing slowly.
When you're complete,
Come back for our final resting pose.
I hope you had fun.
So,
Please come back to sitting in simple crossed legs.
Palms facing up on your knees.
Close your eyes.
As you inhale,
Lift your shoulders to your ears.
Exhale roll them back and down.
Inhale,
Lift your shoulders up to your ears.
Exhale,
Roll them back and down.
One more time as you inhale lift your shoulders all the way up to your ears and exhale roll them back and down.
Place your palms behind you for support.
Uncross your legs.
Keep your legs bent,
Feet flat on the floor.
Lie on your back.
Palms facing up beside you.
Dig your heels into the ground,
Toes facing up.
Extend your legs out straight.
Release your feet.
Just let your feet flop out to the side.
Inhale fully,
Deeply,
Slowly into your ribcage.
As you exhale,
Relax your jaw,
Tongue and cheeks.
We'll let everything go.
Shavasana.
On your next inhalation keeping your eyes closed draw your knees into your chest.
Lift your right arm up extended along your right ear.
Roll to your side.
Place your left palm on the ground for support and sit yourself up in simple cross legs.
You can place your palms in prayer position or on your knees.
And we all chant Aum together.
Aaaaaaaaaa With my palms in prayer position,
I bow to you.
When you are ready,
Flutter your eyelids open That's all for today.
Thank you so much for being here.
Take care.
Bye.
