Welcome and settle in.
Today's meditation.
Will be a contemplation.
On the concept of.
.
.
This is it.
The title.
Of a great book.
By Alan Watts.
Which I recommend,
Of course,
You read.
And it's up for discussion today.
So get comfortable.
Relax your breathing.
Straighten up your spine.
End.
This is it.
Such a simple title.
Three of the smallest words in the English language.
Deceptively simple,
Because.
.
.
It is really,
Really,
Really difficult to remember.
As we move through our day.
And what Alan Watts means when he says,
This is it.
Is exactly that.
This is it.
This moment is now.
Anything and everything you could have ever possibly hoped for and dreamed of.
This moment too.
Every moment.
Of course,
There's only one moment.
That we are.
Continuously living.
To elucidate the point a bit more.
If right now.
You're on a beach.
On vacation.
It's kind of.
Easy to feel like this is it,
This is that moment that you've been waiting for.
But also.
You had to travel on a plane to get there.
And maybe go through.
The airport and maybe lose your luggage or sit with a bunch of crowded and annoying people on the plane.
That was it too.
All of that.
When you wake up in the morning.
You know,
Rub the crust out of your eyes and.
.
.
When you're on the train heading to work and when you're dealing with a sick child.
As you get the point.
This is always the moment,
No matter where you are or what you're doing.
It's just very difficult to remember that.
For example,
Yesterday.
My wife and I.
Had a destination to go to.
We were going to take a nice long walk on a nature path that ends at a beach town.
And of course,
So one would tend to think of the destination.
The walk and the beach town as it,
But also getting in the car on the way to go there,
Driving to the starting point.
Walking from the car through the parking lot to the Beginning of the path,
All those little in-between moments,
Those were it too.
The problem is that we tend not to,
Not only not to remember that,
But we tend not to believe that.
Oh,
How could walking through the parking lot?
On the way to the beach,
Be it.
But it is.
It is because it is a majestic and beautiful moment if you choose to see the detail and beauty in it.
And now,
Okay,
If you're a bit skeptical,
You might say,
Oh,
Okay,
Matt,
We get the point.
Everything is beautiful.
But do you really practice that?
The more I.
.
.
Remind myself of the simple phrase,
This is it.
Throughout.
The day.
The more gratitude I feel,
The more I notice.
This is why the practice of writing in a journal with as much detail as possible.
It's helpful.
Because there really are so many little details wherever you are right now,
Wherever you're sitting.
There are millions of details in the room that you are that you could potentially write about on a piece of paper that would fill a lengthy,
Lengthy page or two or more.
Because this is it.
As you move through your day.
Whatever you're feeling.
Stressed or lost or like things are all blending into each other.
Each moment to the next,
Or when you find yourself.
Looking ahead to something to come in the future or lamenting about something in the past,
You can always remind yourself.
That this is it.
Right here.
Right now.
Thank you for listening.
Thank you for your practice.
And you may sit and enjoy this moment,
Which is it,
For as long as you like.
