Welcome to Light Journal by Yana,
A space where you don't have to perform,
Prove,
Or rush.
You can simply arrive as you are.
I'm Yana,
Lifestyle coach,
Yoga teacher,
And someone who believes growth isn't about becoming someone new,
But remembering who you were before you started doubting yourself.
Each episode is a gentle pause in a loud world.
A place to reflect,
Soften and take one small action that changes the way you treat yourself and move through your day.
And today we're talking about something that sounds simple,
But touches almost every part of your life.
Self love.
Not the aesthetic version,
Not the candle and affirmation version,
But the real,
Quiet version.
Sometimes uncomfortable kind that actually changes how you live.
You've heard of the phrase,
Love yourself,
A million times.
It's written on mugs,
Instagram quotes and self-care journals.
It sounds beautiful.
But if you've ever tried to actually do it,
Really live it,
You know it's not as easy as lighting a candle and saying a few affirmations.
Self-love isn't something you say,
It's something you give to yourself every single day.
And that sounds simple,
But it's one of the hardest things most people will ever learn.
Because somewhere along the way we learned to give our love away,
To everyone and everything else,
Before we ever thought of giving it to ourselves.
We learn to prove,
To please,
To perform.
We learned that we had to earn rest,
That our worth was tied to how productive,
Helpful or impressive we were.
And when you live like that for long enough,
Self-love starts to sound selfish.
But here's the truth.
Real self-love is self-respect in action.
It's not what you tell yourself when things go wrong,
It's what you do for yourself.
When no one is watching.
Let's break that down.
Think about someone you love,
Maybe your partner,
A friend,
A sibling,
Even your pets.
When you love them,
You don't just say it,
You show it.
You check in,
You listen,
You make sure they're fed,
Rested,
Safe,
Happy.
You give them patience,
Forgiveness,
Space to grow.
Now ask yourself,
Do you do that for you?
Do you check in with your own feelings?
Do you feed yourself in ways that nourish,
Not punish?
Do you rest before you burn out?
Do you forgive yourself for being human,
Or do you tear yourself apart for not being perfect?
That's the gap most of us live in.
We say we want confidence,
Balance and peace,
But we treat ourselves like someone we don't even like.
So let's make this practical.
Let's talk about what self-love actually looks like day to day.
Self-love looks like keeping the promises you make to yourself.
It's saying I'll take care of me and meaning it.
It's the moment you say,
I'll go for a walk today,
And you actually go.
It's the moment you say,
I'll stop scrolling and sleep early.
And you really do.
Not because you have to,
But because you respect yourself enough to follow through.
Each time you do,
You build a little more trust with yourself,
And self-trust is the foundation of real confidence.
Self-love looks like boundaries,
Not walls,
Boundaries.
It's knowing where your energy goes and choosing carefully.
It's saying no,
Not because you don't care,
But because you finally do.
About you.
When you say no to something that drains you,
You're saying yes to something that heals you.
And that's the most loving thing you can do.
Self-love also looks like patience with your growth,
With your healing,
With your body.
We are so used to rushing results that we forget that nothing beautiful blooms overnight.
You don't rush a sunrise,
Do you?
You don't force a flower to open faster?
You don't shout at your heart to heal?
You wait,
You nurture,
You show up.
Patience is the quiet form of love most people skip,
But it's what keeps you steady through all the in-between moments,
The parts of life that don't look like progress,
But are.
Self-love also looks like choosing what feels you.
That includes food,
Movement,
People,
And thoughts.
It's noticing how something makes you feel.
Not just in the moment,
But after.
Does it bring calm or chaos?
Does it nourish or numb?
Does it make you expand or shrink?
And this isn't about perfection,
It's about awareness.
It's about saying,
I deserve to feel good,
Not someday,
But today.
Now pause for a moment and ask yourself,
When was the last time I did something for me?
Not because I had to,
But because it felt good.
Maybe dancing in your kitchen,
A quiet coffee alone.
Closing your laptop without guilt or maybe it's been a while.
Whatever your answer is,
Just notice it.
No judgment,
Just awareness.
Because awareness is always the first act of love.
Before we move into the next part,
A small note for your safety.
This reflection and breathing exercise is meant for general well-being and self-awareness.
It's not a medical or psychological advice and doesn't replace professional support.
If you're driving,
Operating machinery or doing anything that requires your full attention,
Please pause this and come back when you can be fully present.
And as always,
Listen to your body.
If anything feels uncomfortable or overwhelming,
You're allowed to stop,
Take a break,
And or simply continue listening without participating.
Your safety and comfort always come first.
Now take a deep breath.
Inhale deeply through your nose and exhale slowly through your mouth.
Think of one small promise you made to yourself recently and didn't keep.
Something tiny.
Instead of guilt?
Offer yourself grace.
And make a new promise.
Something kind.
Something realistic.
Say it out loud.
Because words create energy.
And when you say it with intention you're already halfway to keeping it.
Self-love isn't about becoming your best self overnight.
It's about showing up for the version of you that exists today.
A tired one.
A messy one.
A drying one.
You don't need to heal by fixing yourself,
You heal by accepting yourself and then choosing one small act that moves you forward.
You can't hate yourself into the person you want to be.
You can't shame yourself into motivation.
You can only love yourself into growth.
Today,
Choose one thing your future self will thank you for.
Something small that says,
I care.
Because transformation begins in those quiet moments where you decide you matter.
Oh and please remember this,
You are the longest relationship that you'll ever have.
So be kind to you,
Protect your peace,
Keep your promises.
And trust me,
It's not selfish.
It's actually sacred.
Thank you for listening to Light Journal by Yonah.
If this episode made you feel seen.
Soften.
Or reminded you to treat yourself differently.
Share it with someone who might need that too.
And remember,
Self-love isn't a destination.
It's a daily practice,
One promise at a time.
Until next time,
Take care of you.
