It Takes A Real Man To Be A Father

This is a poem I wrote when I was a kid both to and about my dad. I know I could have edited it once I grew up but I wanted to stay true to my childhood self and to honor how I felt at that age. I think I was approximately 10-12 years old at the time but that's only a guess. My dad has always been a source of calm and humor in my life and I wanted to create something that reflected how much I admire and love him.

It takes a real man to deal with what comes with having a child.

It takes a real man to love his child.

It takes a real man to care for his child.

It takes a real man to be there and support his child.

It takes a real man to teach his child.

It takes a real man to help his child.

It takes a real man to honor his child.

It takes a real man to guide his child.

It takes a real man to understand his child.

It takes a real man to have his child successfully make it through life.

It takes a real man to admit to his child when he doesn't know the answer.

It takes a real man to admit to his child when he's wrong.

It takes a real man to be a real father.

And Daddy,

That's just what you are.

You are a real father and a real man.
