Breath Work: What's Actually Happening In Your Body
by Ash Witham
What is conscious connected breath work, and what does it actually do? In this short video, I break down the science: what's happening in your nervous system, why it can take you somewhere that talking and thinking sometimes can't, and how it's a technology you already have.

Take a deep breath with me.
Sigh Notice anything?
When you breathe in a specific intentional way,
You start to shift your nervous system.
And most of us spend a lot of time in an unconscious nervous system state,
Specifically sympathetic.
This is your fight,
Flight,
Or freeze state.
And this is also the body in protection mode.
Know that this isn't a character flaw.
It's just really what modern life is asking of us.
And when we do conscious connected breath work,
This actually takes you into a controlled sympathetic activation on purpose.
Your heart rate is still gonna rise.
And awareness is gonna heighten,
But then something's gonna shift.
The body drops into a deep parasympathetic rest towards the end of a conscious connected breathwork journey.
And in that shift,
The brain quiets,
That part of you that's planning,
Narrating,
Worrying.
And you get to access what's been underneath.
Emotions that have been waiting.
Parts of yourself that don't usually get our time.
This is really an altered state,
Not from anything external.
But from your own breath.
That's the science of it.
If none of that means much to you,
Know this.
Breathwork is a technology that you are sitting on right now,
Right now in your own body.
And it can take you somewhere that talking,
Thinking,
And even years of other work might not be able to,
And definitely not as swiftly.
So what's on the other side of conscious connected breath work is for you to find out.
