Let's begin by arriving,
Find a comfortable position,
Sitting or lying down,
Allow your body to settle,
Let your shoulders drop,
Your jaw soften,
Your forehead smooth.
If it feels comfortable,
Gently close your eyes or soften your gaze.
Take a slow breath in through the nose,
And a long breath out through the mouth.
Again,
Inhale slowly,
Exhale fully.
And now let the breath return to its natural rhythm.
If you're listening to this meditation because you've been feeling depressed,
Heavy,
Unmotivated or disconnected from life,
First,
I want you to know something important.
You're not broken,
And you're not alone.
I've struggled with depression for most of my life,
I still do.
In the world we live in today,
Many people are quietly carrying feelings of sadness,
Exhaustion,
Or emptiness.
Our minds are constantly stimulated,
Our attention is pulled in every direction,
And many of us feel pressure to keep going even when our inner world feels tired.
So if you're feeling low,
That doesn't mean you've failed,
It means you're human.
Depression often brings the feeling that something is wrong with us,
But sometimes it's simply the body and mind asking for something different,
More rest,
More care,
More presence.
So for the next few minutes,
You don't need to fix anything.
You don't need to solve your life.
You don't need to force yourself to be happy or to feel happy.
Just breathe,
Bring your attention to your breath,
Notice the inhale,
Notice the exhale.
Feel that cool air entering your body and the warm air leaving again.
You don't need to control it,
Just observe it.
The breath is simple,
Reliable,
Always here.
Sometimes when depression is present,
The mind drifts towards thoughts like,
What's the point?
Why do I feel this way?
Will this ever change?
When those thoughts appear,
Gently notice them.
Not attaching,
Not avoiding,
Just noticing.
You might simply say to yourself,
Thinking,
Thinking,
Thinking,
And then return to the breath,
Not pushing the thoughts away,
Not judging them,
Just coming back again and again to this moment,
Right now,
In this breath.
Nothing else is required of you.
You are breathing,
You are here,
And that is enough.
Place a hand over your heart if that feels comforting.
Feel the warmth of your own hand pressing up against your chest.
My friend,
The same body that feels heavy sometimes is also the body that has carried you through every day of your life.
Your heart has continued beating,
Your lungs,
They continue breathing.
There is resilience here,
Even if it doesn't always feel like it.
Silently repeat to yourself,
This moment is enough.
I can meet this moment with kindness.
Healing from depression rarely happens all at once.
It happens moment by moment,
Breath by breath,
Small steps,
Small returns to presence.
And every time you bring your attention back to your breath,
Back to this moment,
You are healing,
Even if it feels small,
It's progress.
Take one slightly deeper breath in,
And a slow breath out.
Allow your nervous system to soften just a little.
You don't need to know what tomorrow will feel like.
For now,
Just this breath,
Just this moment.
Gently bring your awareness back to your body.
Feel your feet,
Your hands,
The space around you.
Maybe wiggle your fingers or roll your shoulders.
And when you're ready,
Gently open your eyes.
Remember this,
Even when your mind feels dark,
The present moment is still here.
And the breath will always be waiting for you.
Namaste.
